This is a decent emulator. Thought folks might want a heads-up. 14 bundled, decent games with a few classics in there.

One wonders how they got the rights to distribute those games... but still, better than the infamous ZX Gamer :-)

Hm, same problem like with C64 emulator. Limited amount of games. This app should be for free.

Sad. Making money with copyrighted games. If it only were free... I will keep using iXpectrum in my jailbroken iPhone... ;)

Its best, i can put any game, and its free :)

    You can install from cydia.

    Cheers.

I would expect he is charging for the emulator, not the games... If distribution is allowed and he doesn't charge for games (say linked to the WOS archive) would that be any different to other emulators out there.

Obviously if he charges money for the games then, unless some specific agreement has been achieved with the copyright holders, that is a different matter...

What evidence do you have for that statement?
    If distribution is allowed

    Which it's not.
say linked to the WOS archive

Which they're not. They're in the package.

    A Message from the developer:

    Posted in touch aracade: :(

    Hello again,

Thank you all for your support and beta testing. We are working in a new version to fix the issues...

I Want to communicate to you that we are making changes in the support site. I will publish tomorrow.

    http://www.hergest.jazztel.es/eliteplin/

The most importat change is "our philosophy" section

1)We do not want make money buying old spectrum games. This is not our business at all. We are just two old-programming-style guys and we make iPhone software just for fun.

2)The app price (very reasonable 0,99 $) is only for the development and maintenance of the app. We have worked very hard in order that the product runs at full speed in every iPhone. Every CPU cycle was measured carefully. Also additional work is necessary to adjust each game for good control feeling.

3)Our goal is that you have fun, like us. We do not want to open a game store to make money for each game. ABSOLUTELY NOT. The fact is that we are working in a ?Add? wizard button to allow to load and configure your own games. The availability of this feature may not depend only on us...

4)The games included in the application are freely distributable according to www.worldofspectrum.org.

5)We spent so much time trying to contact with the games authors, with no success at all. PLEASE if you own any copyrights and you feel offended or want to contact us, please do it (mgarciacabe@gmail.com). We will be very happy to contact with you.

6)if you own any copyrights and you want to remove your game from the pack, PLEASE contact us and we will INMMEDIATELY. We do not want to hurt anyone.

7)If you don?t like the app, please don?t buy it.

    Regards,
    Fernando

Any permission gained by WoS is non-transferable, meaning that only WoS gets that permission. Anyone who wants the same permission will have to ask the copyright holders themselves.

Until the authors of this emulator can show they got permission to sell these games alongside their emulator, the emulator shall not get any mention on WoS.

Eh? I have no problems with people charging for their work but I'm not sure the above justification is actually valid (or required).

I bought this on an impulse a few weeks back and sad to say that the controls are terrible. The virtual joystick makes most of the games unplayable especially chuckie-egg. I played it for a few minutes then became frustrated and have not touched it again.

About packaging games, unfortunately it seems that the authors have no choice but to do this due to Apple's policy on emulators.

According to Apple, its OK to release an emulator providing you don't allow users to download unbundled content to an emulator (as essentially an emulator is an unlimited supply of games from which Apple will not see any additional revenues).

It seems the authors just bundled a few games from the 1982-1984 era and in reality, they won't be hurting the original authors nor will they bring in more than a few hundred quid for themselves which will likely not even pay for their time if it were employed elsewhere so go easy on the authors.

I would buy a great emulator for the iPhone if it were permitted but unfortunately it isn't. The only decent Spectrum emulator ( iXpectrum ) on the iPhone therefore requires jailbreaking.

At 1 pound I don't think the authors are excessively profiteering off the work of others but the main issue for me is that the quality of the emulation is just not that good. 48K only, not the best games, terrible controls and lack of even basic options.

Patrik Rak would make a great emulator for the iPhone but its not even an option. Apple policies will not permit his genius officially on their platform. Apple make great hardware, reasonable software but I abhor their business practises and lack of openness.

I think ZXDS is the best handheld emulator by far...

But i dont agree with you... I do not think there is much difference "in concept" between the DS homebrew world, and jailbroken world. All are alternative environments where the profit is not sought...

if Patrik Rak would like to make an emulator for iphone. I do not think the problem was the money and the closeness of the platform...

I would like to own zxiphone by patrik. :)

The codename is iZXS, actually. Have been on my mind for such a long time...
