Anyone bought online from TV Memories?

Has anyone used the online shop TV Memories (http://www.tv-memories.com)?

They specialise in making 'lost' programmes available on region-free DVD, those series and programmes not officially released by tv stations, studios etc.

I've been after the old '90s series Common As Muck on DVD but I gather it was never formally released, but these guys have a 2-disc set up for ?3.99 which seems too good to miss, bootleg or otherwise.

But...being tight-fisted, I'm curious whether anyone else has bought from them and had problems? After all, don't want to lose my hard-earned four quid :D

Their catalogue of stuff for sale looks quite good too for obscure stuff, so if they are decent then I'll give them a go!

I'm also interested to know if theyre 'safe' or not. I'm after the original V series, theyve quoted me for the 8 season series which comes on 40 dvds ?1.25 but 'call me tight fisted' but i dont want to risk it in case theyre not legit ;)

Seriously come on fella ! Just take the 'gamble' ! I've brought old sports dvds/series from some sellers online and its been fine. Its only a few quid, take the gamble !!!

Yeah, it's only a few quid but I've not checked how they take payment yet and I'm not sticking any credit or debit card details into a site with a poor record! Paypal would be ok.

In any event, by risk even ?4 when I could avoid it if people here know the site is iffy? Call me cheap, but I'd rather spend the ?4 on something else than chuck it away!

Far be it from me to drag the thread back to the original subject, but has anyone used this company?!

    Sorry.

In answer to your question, no I've not used them, and having gone and looked at their website it currently (9.58am 29/06/10) doesn't appear to be operational as, despite a few pictures and some text, there are no active links to anything.

My personal rule is, never purchase from an online store unless they have a phone number you can call to make sure you can speak to a human being in the event of a problem, and a full address so you can see where they're based.

Based on my first impression of their (non-working) website, and my subsequent search of their WHOIS record (which revealed that the domain was only set up in November last year), I wouldn't touch this company with a barge pole.

Definitely would not buy from them - not only do they have a non-functional website at the moment, but the whois record shows that they are keeping the domain owner details private, and have changed server providers 6 times in 4 years - suggests they keep getting taken down!

Actually, if you read the bottom of http://www.tv-memories.com/Information.htm you will see that they claim all dvds are taken from old TV re-runs and VHS recordings - ie. they are not commercially sourced and are breaching copyright.

I would contact BBC worldwide in wood lane.. (they deal with the merchandising / dvd's / foreign licensing)

ask them to put it on dvd.. BUT get a LOAD more to do it at the same time.

I was gonna do that regarding micromen

I had a quick look at this TV Meemories site out of curiosity really and saw that they have Treasure Hunt listed (?100 for the complete series. All of them). I'm only mentioning that because there was a question on Treasure Hunt in last nights pub quiz ;-)

I also noticed that they only seem to take payments through Google pay (or whatever it's called.

To be honest, I wouldn't risk it...

*EDIT* When I worked at HMV, we had a series of music DVD's come in and although they were properly pressed and not DVD-R's, they were all recorded from TV air plays. They said that they were in the small print on the back of the box. they said that because they were "broadcast into the public domain", they had the right to use those recordings for the releases. Needless to say, they were pulled from the shelves rather quickly once the legal department caught wind of this.

Now as an ex-solicitor I would have soon told them where to go on that one!! There is no such thing as broadcasting into the public domain - it is broadcast under the terms of a licence agreement!
