New in Town

edited July 2010 in Chit chat
Hi,

I just joined up to the WoS forums after a 12 year absense from the Speccy community (I was on comp.sys.sinclair two decades ago).

I'm 34 now and got my first Speccy (rubber key 48K) back in 1983 second-hand alongside Hunchback and Mr.Wimpy and a beaten-up cassette player. Quality games.

I don't know if anyone else feels like this but I feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia toward my Speccy period. The nostalgia is centred around 1983-1985 mostly as my Speccy broke in 1986 and my father became unemployed so I couldn't afford to get it fixed nor even afford the magazines.

Anyway - just wanted to say hi-ho to others and to ask if there are any annual meet-ups in the Speccy-verse? I currently live in Tokyo but I come back to England from time to time.

Toodle-pip,

Chris

Hi, I remember you! You never did answer my question. So what is it?

Welcome to the forums! Once you think you are out, we pull you back in! Well, come in, put your feet up, smoke if you got em.

We all love the spectrum. We are currently in a period of mourning as Jonathan "Joffa" Smith, who was a regular poster here recently died. No point me repeating everything here, check the Chit Chat forum.

Most of all enjoy the nostalga. We all do. Don't forget to check out the latest spectrum developments - twitter clients, mass storage (divIDE / divIDE+) and the new game releases.

Mr. Wimpy was one of my first games too, and one of the few that my Dad also got into. We both found the first bit boring and couldn't wait to get to the burger making stages. Back then neither of us realised the main game was based on the arcade game BurgerTime!

Oh, and welcome to the forums! :)

But you can't takeaway from it.

Welcome to the forum. Kinda jealous of you as it must be great re-discovering all the classics again, theres tons of magazine scans from Crash/Your Sinclair/Sinclair User in the archives, plus tons of games to play.

    Enjoy !

I loved both sections actually although the second section was less frustrating for sure. Strangely I remember my mother enjoying the first section a lot. I guess that was before she decided that games were not for her.

I think I preferred hunchback though even though it seems so simple gameplay wise today. I remember seeing hunchback in the arcades when I went to a holiday park in the summer holidays one year (I guess it must have been '82 or '83).

I envy your proximity to really good fish and chips. I miss fish and chips so much and you live right next to the heart of the fish and chip world.

I remember buying a poo game called Dallas from Whitby once. It was poo.

When he stood to give a vote of thanks at Tuesday's event his trousers came loose and fell.

Hadn't seen that before. The BBC is certainly maintaining its charter obligations with stories like this. The description sounds like a carry-on film.
