I've got Sky in my lounge so no problems concerning the signal there but i have portable tv in the bedroom with built in freeview. At first i used a standard aerial that you plug into the back of the tv this was fine at first but when i moved house i bought an amplified aerial for a better signal (or so i thought). All i seem to get is BBC1-2, BBC News, ITV2-3, Dave and a couple of others (haven't checked for 'Gay Rabbit!!). All other channels tend to freeze when switched on.
I've moved the aerial around, done numerous scans but same thing. I'm sick of digital i want to go back to analogue!
Despite the signal coming through an aerial lead, I weirdly get varying signal strength depending on where I move the digibox. So you might want to try moving the TV and seeing if you get a better signal.
I love digital TV but it's motherflipping weird like that.
I can't believe that the studio would be 1 street away yet the signal from the transmitter didn't reach it. That is to say, if you couldn't pick it up then they wouldn't be able to either as the transmitter is on a hill somewhere, not in the studio, unless it's a community or RSL station. That just wouldn't happen, as the studio would have to be in the TSA of the transmitter. What was the reception like in cars outside your flat?
No signal at ALL in my car. Sorry, not quite true - I could get Radio 4 on LW if I was lucky and that was it. Putting an outside aerial up simply wasn't an option. Landlord said no! Although, saying that, MW was absolutely fine but there is nothing on that that I want to listen to.
It's the same with digital TV. I get quite a poor analogue signal and any change in the wheather will make it squiffy for a while before it settles down again. The digital switchover isn't due here until 2012 but I have been able to get perfect Freeview for about the last 5 years or so!! How does that work?? I get every station (including all radio stations) perfectly. Where I live is in a valley and I have been told before that TV and Radio signals 'miss' us but surely that would make digital even worse?
It baffles me!
Yeah, the valley definitely explains the poor reception.
How fuzzy is the analog TV? Is it just a bit of fuzz, apart from the times when the weather disturbs it?
Digital TV will be very stable up to a point. It's when it crosses the line between getting a clean enough signal to decode and getting a signal where parts of the information are missing so that the picture breaks up that it suddenly becomes very noticeable. You should be able to see how strong the signal is via one of the menus on your box. I get about 75% strength and that gives 86% quality.
My misses gets freeview through a standard aerial no problem.
I get satellite freeview with no problem.
I get all the other sats in range no problem.
I can only get DAB radio in the back garden, which is surrounded by trees and other buildings.
If I am on the bus going from Brum city centre to home (about 3 miles) the further I get out of the city the more the signal drops on a DAB radio. Which also happens to be as the buildings get lower and there should be less line of site problems.

Go figure.
