Budget Game World Cup Group H

edited July 2010 in Games
Right here it is the final group out of the hat!

It's been fun, but now I'm going to wait until all the polls close 1 week from this one being posted to total up the winners, and see if we need any extra time for ties.

Usual bumph right here.

It's once again a mixed bag, some good some downright stinking.

Have fun! :)

my money is on joe blade or booty winning this one.. or maybe even agent x / olli lissa.. but going by how many spare tapes.. I'd say booty and joe blade sold the most.

Went for Booty, but think this is prob the poorest group!

I had another go on Booty just now. It occurred to me that I've never actually completed the first screen!

"And made a big, steaming s**t" - Brilliant.

Booty - great game (s) - well worth ?2.50 , spent xmas 84 morning playing it.
  • edited July 2010
Had to vote for Booty. It's way better than the competition in this group. I myself first played it some years after the 1984 release date, but it had stood the test of time and still has in my opinion.

Aha. back to the good games eh? About time!

So good, that I just can't choose at the moment. This is gonna require a bit of serious thinking, and a bit of game-playing. Back tomorrow with my vote.

    It'll be between

    Turbo the Tortoise
    Chevy Chase
    Joe Blade
    El Cid
    Agent X
    Gloop!
    Olli & Lissa
    or Gunstar

I just can't choose right now!

I'll go for Agent X. It's got that great Tim Follin music, plus you got a heck of a lot of game with the four different parts; a couple of them aren't that great, perhaps, but you could hardly complain for the price.

    JB for me.

Turbo the Tortoise here considering I've only played the CPC version..
  • edited July 2010
    1. stack up
played during a speccy tour, a whola lotta years ago.

    2. el cid
bought in a shop that had it only because there was the amstrad version on
the other side. shops selling spectrum games were virtually disappeared at that time.
    draw a map of it.

    3. matt lucas
    i like the name.

As much as I love Turbo The Tortoise, I'm gonna have to vote for Booty. Classic!!

Very easy to choose. Booty, one of the favourites to win this World Cup, as many said above, a classic. Other good games with so bad luck to be in this 'easy' group are Olli & Lissa, Chimera, Joe Blade and Mega Bucks.

Okay, I've decided. Olli & Lissa.

Despite never getting past the frog, I feel that it just has the edge over Agent X.
That was the toughest round so far for me. Phew!

Easy one for me too - Booty was one of the first budget games that I bought and I wouldn't have been disappointed if I had paid ?6.95, let alone ?2.50.

Never played Turbo the Tortoise though, so I'll have to check it out!

Booty is a classic but after a while that tune was very annoying ! Turbo the tortoise is a classic, hadnt played it much before till i found it, great little Mario Land type game.

Agreed, which is why I turned it off every time I played (it's a single key press, when you're in game)! :D

Also that colour clash is funny to see !

Wasnt Booty the game where if you had the currah microspeech attached there was a game to play before the main game loaded ?

Hey - no starting on the colour clash! ;)

Yeah, the hidden game is detailed in the Tipshop. I've never got around to trying it!

    Olli & Lissa without doubt.
I play this game a lot at that time. :)
One of my favorite platform games on Spectrum.

    Gotta be Booty!

Feel a bit sorry for the competition in this group, there are some half decent games in there.

    Turbo!

Booty's a brilliant game , well worth the couple of quid it cost , and still very playable today.

Olli & Lissa is another fab game also , but a little too tough , and Agent X was a superb (the first?) budget multi-parter , where the mini-games were all pretty cool

Blimey, people really like Booty don't they! When the game came out, I'd already heard lots about it and so many people said how good it was. By the time I actually played it (about 1992) I thought they must have been talking about a different game.

I guess for ?1.99 back then it was pretty clever, but I missed out on that. I really believed that Agent X was gonna walk this one, even though I voted for Olli!

Bloody hell maybe I should just skip the knockouts and make Booty the winner

1st place: Booty with 27 votes I think that's the most yet?
2nd place: Joe Blade with a paltry 8 votes.
3rd place: turbo the Tortoise with an equally feeble 7 votes.

Well that's it that's the last poll done, I may post the extra time poll up today before I go to sleep, but I'm really knackered and having a little time to myself today.

No sanding, staining, or varnishing any wood for extra money today, and trying to get reacquainted with my estranged Wii :D

Like me to set up the extra time polls Boozy?

Not really I've had a plan for this pretty much from the start, but since so few games are going to go to extra time it's gonna be a lot easier than I thought.

I'm going to cover it in a single poll so I don't open a load of threads, nothing complicated or awkward at all.

There'll be rules to the poll though slightly different from the main event (by slightly I mean completely)..
