I listened to it with the intention of trying to help and instead put myself into exactly the same position as you?

It's very familiar that's for sure? But now I can't tell if it was from a TV show or a game?

You've just ruined my day you have :p

I'm third here, I know the tune, but can't recall neither name nor where I've heard it (many times for sure).

I have a vague recollection of hearing it as a kid around midnight, so it could be from an early 80's late night TV program.

I even have the instruments in my head. And for some reason I have the Thames television ditty playing before it (in my head). Dah, dah, dah, dah, dum, doo, dee, daa...

This is what happens if you stayed up all night in your bedroom playing with the speccy in the dark. You get tortured by it years later.

Its holding up my plan for a TV themed beep E.P. Choices of tunes so far are, Hammer House of Horror, The Professionals, The Sweeney, Incredible Hulk.

It's The Shadows (as in Cliff Richard's old band). Can't remember the name of the song at the mo, but I will...

EDIT: Found it... it's Man Of Mystery by The Shadows.

I think your right Greencard. I can hear Hank Marvin's reverb of his fender stratocaster in my head... Come on FrankT being a guitarist I would of thought you would of known :-D

Yup it's Man of Mystery by The Shadows

I've just sat and listened to every Shadows tune that sounded like it could've been from a TV Show FBI, The Savage, etc, etc.

EDIT: You must've changed your quote as I was replying, funny that's the exact same vid I watched to find it

    Thank you GreenCard!

Why does it remind me of late night speccy playing?

I had to learn a few Shadows songs for my old band, Apache, Fingle Bunt, FBI and didn't much like playing them. I prefer this tune.

I've searched for man of mystery and tv theme tunes, no luck. Probably a false memory.

    You're very welcome Frank.

My last band did a cover of Apache, but more in the style of the Michael Viner version. It was crazy funky.

I did have a wee look online to see if Man Of Mystery had been used in any TV shows (it does ring that kind of bell with me too), but my search came up empty.

We used to do quite a few songs in the style of someone else. Rod Stewart's 'I Don't Want to Talk About It', in the style of The Wind Cries Mary by Hendrix and middle section of song with the solo and backing in style of Guns n Roses' November Rain. It all worked perfect. Was one of my favs. :)

That does sound interesting, I can kind of imagine that working well. That's a bit of a coincidence too really... The Wind Cries Mary was the first song I ever played with my last band. Erm, but it was in the style of Hendrix though.

We used to make most of our covers either funk or reggae versions... for example, we used to do a great funk version of Talking Heads' Psycho Killer, and a reggae version of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain (which we used to call "Pull The Chain" hehe). Great days.

    I've got to do these.

Was thinking about doing Streets of San Francisco, but its tricky one to do.
Others to consider are Joe 90, Thunderbirds, Mission Impossible, Hawaii Five 0, Tour of Duty (Paint It Black - Stones).

I'm doing the main theme of each one, then picking a favourite to finish first, depending on how well they turn out.

Graz once asked, many months ago, for a version of the theme tune from UFO. Which I attempted, but failed miserably to do. It seems to be in 33/PI or some such freaky time signature that I couldn't really get my head around...

It's a nice tune though. I suspect you'd probably have more luck with it than I did.

PS. Posted the Shadows tune to my facebook page and got the correct answer back, but not before it was already correctly answered here.

Just had a quick go at it.

Managed to get the beat right I think. Its a sort of double time 4/4 drum with a 3/4 bass.
