I am so annoyed

edited August 2010 in Chit chat
I placed an order on Amazon for some phone bits, case, charger, screen wipes all x 2. The reseller who sells them charged me ?1.95 per item for postage - more than the value of the items, and in the case of the screen wipes posted me 1 x 10 instead of 2 x 5, so I received 5 items, not 6. They were all in 1 jiffy bag. I wasn't informed of the cost of postage on the order screen, just the "order amount". As soon as I placed the order (I also ordered some other stuff on the same order) I thought the order value was a bit high, so started investigating the lines which is when I found this hidden charge. I immediatly tried to cancel the order and the response I got was "we will post the order, then claim a refund". The T&C state they do not refund postage, so they are ripping me off.

I'm sure profittering from postage is illegal in the UK. Anyone got any thoughts?

companies dohave the right to include a handling charge in the p&p, they must also state what the total p&p you will pay is, they don't have to state how much of that is on top of what the physical carriage charge is, but they do have to tell you what the total p&p will be before your order is taken, under the distant selling regulations as far as I know

When I place an order on Amazon if it is > ?15 I normally firkle the postage options to "super saver" as I'm not really in a hurry for the item. I did this in this case, but still got bent over 6 x ?1.95 for items costing less that that. I suspect -ve feedback is going in there direction unless they respond to my complaint.

It would sound like that legally they are covered then, from what information you have provided. Honest feedback might be your only recourse.

Yes I'm thinking that. Morally bankrupt & disingenuous comes to mind. I've put in the complaint and will await the reply.

I now buy most of my 2nd hand stuff from amazon. You get a price instead of bidding and the main reason is because i've found Amazon are VERY good at refunding you.

Once you've complained they should take it up far better than ebay would and its automated replies.

After telling one seller an item didnt arrive i was refunded soon after by himself/amazon and got all my money back.

If you complain about this issue Amazon should be good about it and get it sorted.

Dont use ebay much now as when you do have problems its a nightmare trying to talk to someone

yeah I use Amazon a lot for second handbooks, and small items. never used to.

I bought 3 CDs from the same seller at the same time and was charged ?1.21 postage per item, despite the fact they were all sent at once in the same jiffy bag. bit of a rip off IMO but I think that's just how amazon works

    Order value 8.26

    Shipping 10.17

    VAT 2.77

The whole order came in 1 D/1 jiffy (the one you would post a CD in).

    Bandits.

I asked my missus about it cos' she buys and sells quite a bit on Amazon.

The seller has nothing to do with the postage apparently? Amazon decide the shipping costs, and the seller actually only gets the money from the sale. Once the deal is done Amazon credit the seller with the money they charge the buyer for shipping so that they have the money to ship it, then once the buyer coughs up at the other end amazon gets it's money back.

Sounds all a bit a carry on to me though.

I'm not even sure I understand that lot! Surely if they have to transfer money twice it rakes up massive bank charges?!?

I've had a reply to my complaints:

    Complaint:

Package received. You sent me "10 in 1" screen protector, not "2 x 5" yet you charged me postage for "2 x 5". I would consider this fraud. I am very very unhappy about the treatment you have given me. I have already attempted to cancel this order as the delivery charge was greater than the order value, (I was not informed of this on the Amazon page, if I was I would have never placed the order) yet your arrogant answer was "we will post it, claim a refund". You did this knowing your T&C state you do not refund postage. This is disingenuous at best. There have been several cases about illegal profiting from postage, is this going to be the next one? Very unhappy. Please propose a solution.

    Response:

    Hi
we will send you 2 x 5 packs out for you with a pre paid envelope for you to send the 10 pack back.

    My reply:

What about the banditry with the postage? I'm going to post negative feedback everywhere I can think of if you continue to ignore me.
    Order value 8.27
    Shipping 10.17
    VAT 2.77

    You are bandits.

I thought on Amazon it comes up on the penultimate page saying item cost and delivery charge and final charge whatever postage you select ?

If it came up with the full price on this page i wouldnt have clicked 'pay' and i cant believe any secret costs came up afterwards ?

In 1 order I ordered something from Amazon and items from 2 resellers. The Amazon fulfulled item had various levels of delivery "next day" "1-3" days etc but the reseller items just had the total order value, inc postage with no option to change anything so I didn't realise the postage amount. After I posted the order I went "omg" and then went looking as to why ?8 of stuff was ?20 and found this banditry. I immediately went to cancel the order but it was progressed to "in process" which mean you can't cancel it anymore. I went into the order options and "contact reseller" along with the "cancel order" option. The reply I got was "we are going to post it, claim a refund". They posted the order the day after this, so they could easily have cancelled it. The T&C state they do not refund postage, so they did this in bad faith, knowing I would be bent over.

Here is a link to the bandits:

Avoid like plague! Unless you are very very carefull about resellers this will happen to you!

Post an accurate report to www.bidfraud.com

There you can post ebay / amazon reports on fraudulent sellers.

Their you can share your experience with other shoppers. In doing so, your protecting other buyers from being ripped off, as well as ensuring people will be more cautious when it comes to buying from him / her.

Knowledge is power so they say...

    That is an excellent idea!

I need to let this play out before I start posting about them. At this moment a full refund and post back (at my expense) would sort it. I want the stuff, so will order from somewhere else / different Amazon reseller. As a reseller their handling of this so far has been very poor.

    I've had a reply:

"Postage is charged per item and not per package , this is clearly there to see in our terms and conditions and also before you checkout with these goods. Please by all means return and we will refund for you, "

    I've replied with:

"Please confirm the RMA and that the refund will be for the original order value + postage. The items are still sealed and unopened, only the jiffy bag has been opened. I will return at my expense."

Funny thing is the returns address is in Glossop and I'm in Glossop this weekend, so I will simply post it when I'm passing!
