and its made by kjonami right ;)
    (not konami :) )

we had this discussion 4-6 months ago ? :)

but there are 2 ways to say my surname.. neither is incorrect , to me, but others might differ.. and a friend is "vaux" .. that can be "vox" or "vaugh"

I've been sorting more games for ebay, weird I saw hypersports and well to me who wrote that and fro are kinda 2 different people. (if that makes sense)

I've always pronounced it as Mikey (My-Key as ZnorXman put it). There's no "c" in it, so I don't see how it could be pronounced as "Mickey".

That's how I pronounce it as well. 'My-Key' I mean. I've never doubted that. :)

However, not exeryone pronounces things right, so just because you hear someone else say something, it may not be the right way to say it. ;)

I've always pronounced it Mickey, but if I saw that anywhere else other than referring to the game I would say My-key. Weird!!!

Mikie ? Always pronounced Mi-key. Never mickey ! Went to school over the years with two Mikie's. Never pronounced as Mickey !
  • edited July 2010
    Another vote for "My-key" here.

I've always pronounced it as /miki/ . Konami as /kӨna:mi/.

    Exotic, isn't it? :-)

Are Nice biscuits pronounced "Nice" or "Nice"?

My friend is convinced it's "Nice", but I'm certain he's wrong and that it's "Nice".

I always wondered wher his hometown was :p
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Just think, there must be a parallel universe out there where those biscuits are named after the Austrian village of ****ing, leading to conversations such as:

"Would you like a ****ing biscuit?"
"actually, I think you'll find it's pronounced Fooking"

Nice write up by Retro Gamer in the latest issue (issue 79 with Rainbow islands on the front)

First main feature you get to, a few write-ups from friends who worked with him. Nice to read. Presume RG got the tribute in with minutes to spare before this issue had to go to print.

    RIP, Joffa.

All the greats are gone - Joffa, Tim Hartnell, Paco Menendez, Ian Weatherburn of Alchemist fame... you name them.

At least Costa Panayi of Android and TLL and Cyclone fame is still with us.

I'm reliably informed that Joffa passed away at 10:30 this morning :(

I'm so ashamed I've been away so long that I have only just found out this sad, sad news.
I just can't believe it. I really hope he knew I was always joking when I was pulling his chain about saucer. The man is a legend and I will never forget the impact he had on my childhood memories of playing computer games. Never forgotten my friend.

I'm sure he did. He was always taking the p*ss and would appreciate others doing the same.

Every post qualified by 'as far as I know' ....

It's taken a while, but I've managed to do a write-up for every single one of Joffa's Spectrum games:
    http://www.caffeinated.org.uk/spectrum/games/index.html?section_tag=custom&game_tag=developer&game_subtag=Jonathan%20Smith

As with all the other game reviews, there's screen-captures and a (hopefully) fair assessment of each game's strengths and weaknesses...

Nice one. It's a good read and you've covered each of his games well. Green Beret remains a firm fave of mine.

so sad to hear this it really has brought a tear to my eye and i only knew of him 0.000001% of what alot of people on here knew of him. I was honoured when he posted on a thread i started , in which he talked about giving up programming and doing other things in life. Seems ironic now as he said life is too short heres the thread http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=28274&highlight=side+scrolling+platform.

anyway i can only express my sadness and say what an amazing guy he seemed. Im gonna make a tribute vid to jonathan and play all his games in it.

Am absolutely gutted to discover that Joffa died on 26 June, aged just 43. He was going to be helping out with a film I'm making, but said he was ill and would get in touch when he felt a little better - never stressed how ill, as it turns out!!! and I was waiting for him to get back in touch. Thanks to Skarpo for letting me know..... and I just cannot believe it.

Well then - thanks to Joffa for all the comedy, all the funny moments on here, for his wry wit, irony and brill little YouTube videos... and of course, for his legacy of Spectrum games which will always remain in the pantheon of Spectrum Greats.

Rest well in the Hall of Heroes, Jonathan.

    Andy Remic.

I wish I'd have joined here a few months earlier. Terrible thing to die so young but he left behind plenty of bytes configured in a unique and joyful formation.
