Danial Mandic in CSS decides to ask Martijn - 'You ever contributed something?'

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being human and 10 being Mile, that surely rates as a 10!!

Hehe, what a plonk. Although I remember now why I stopped reading css regularly, Google Groups is fecking awful.

Martijn is a humble man, you could forgive an ignoramous for completely missing his contribution. What is this CCS you speak of, sounds like a laugh?

CSS is one thing and Google Groups is another. ;)

I still stop by CSS and ECSS (the Spanish equivalent of CSS) and sometimes old faces show up and have interesting things to say. I also think CSS is still a good way of reaching a lot of people in the Sinclair world, either for "paging" someone you're trying to find or for announcing something. Speccynews is becoming very popular, but CSS still has its strengths.

/on-topic: No idea who that guy is, but I wouldn't refer to CSS negatively because of the posts of a few people.

who is this martijn character anyway? is he the guy that wrote Steve Davis snooker?

Indeed. Shame there isn't an easy, but usable, way of reading it still now that usenet access has pretty much all but disappeared. I do miss the crazy old css days somewhat.

I still get free USENET access provided by my ISP (Eclipse), they use Giganews. Although I can't otherwise recommend that ISP. I still lurk in CSS and it is much better with a dedicated newsreader app like Thunderbird or tin.

Google Groups does make it all look a bit of a mess, by flattening all of the threads out. I guess they've opted for the lowest common demominator by having a simplistic interface with minimal functionality, but presumably good browser compatibility. Besides, you can't see or post to all of the available groups via Google for various reasons.

pfft. ISP provided usenet servers have all but disappeared. Usenet access is alive and well.

for a free (limited posts per day) usenet connection try www.eternal-september.org or www.aioe.org (I used aioe in the past and currently use eternal september since the the JANET usenet feed my uni used was turned off)

Any link guys? Going through these mailing groups is worse then the hardest maze in a game.

About an hour or 2 ago it was the first on the list of older active topics on the right of the screen.

It's not really that amazing it's not like it's a big flamewar going on, just a clueless gezi, asking a stupid question.

I think I should gently point out that Daniel Mandic's posts on CSS are somewhat unintelligible at the best of times, so it's possible that what he was trying to say doesn't match what everyone thinks he was saying. Not that that's a defence.

Either way, I'd also gently point out that making snide remarks about Speccy community members behind their backs still isn't a great idea.

It's hardly behind anybodies back you can see these forums quite easily weither you're a member or not.

Same as you can see CSS without participating.

Firstly, read the line of Martijn's post that Daniel was replying to.

Secondly - call it what you want, it's still exactly the same variety of nastiness that fuelled recent incidents.

This Daniel Mandic seems to live in his own world where names like WOS or LOL are unknown :)
I wouldn't be surprised if he has some 15 years old 486 PC with Windows 95 and phone modem. He has JPP emulator by Pedro Gimeno from 1992 installed there and is trying to beat Manic Miner for the last twenty years without much success :)

    A quote about him:

Daniel Mandic-Daniel is not an ill intentioned individual, but
his grasp of the English language is so sketchy that his posts
read like Borat on acid. Best to pass on his contributions.
