nec turbografx 16 top games

edited August 2010 in Chit chat
Hi all

Just got a Turnarcade machine and am loving it!

It has too many games to work through on by one - hundreds on each platform.

So can anyone offer a steer on the turbografx and which games on it are considered classics?

ta very
:p

    R-Type 1 & 2
    Pacland
    Galaga 88

    are absolutely brilliant arcade conversions.

Some others I remember from back then :

    Dungeon Explorer
    Alien Seed
    Devil Seed
    Street Fighter II
    Tales of a Monster Path
    Ghouls & Ghosts
    Gradius
    Dragon Spirit

    Yeah it's a cracking bar-top machine.

I will be seeking advice on all the different platforms, so thanks for the advice already...

There are quite a few decent games on that overlooked console all though id suggest giving China Warrior a go, not because its good but just because of how naff it is.

Fantasy Zone is one of my faves.

There are some really good games for this machine amongst the odd and somewhat crappy as well.

    Bonk.
    Bonk's Revenge.
    Bonk 3.
    Air Zonk.
New Adventure Island (it's basically a polished up Wonderboy with a different sprite and story, and funnily enough is based on the first wonderboy, but came out after Adventure Island, I think this may have been when Hudson adopted Master Higgins as their character for the Adventure Island games).
Adventure Island (once again it's basically Monster World, with a different sprite and story).
    Splatterhouse.
    Fantasy Zone.
    Ghouls n' Ghosts.
    Legend of Hero Tonma.
    Liquid Kids.
    Jackie Chans Action Kung Fu.
    Magical chase.
    Devil Crash.
China Warrior (although it is a bit crap, but the graphics are intense for the time it was released).
    New Zealand Story.
    Vigilante.
    Ninja Spirit.
    Ninja Warriors.
Space Harrier (even if the main sprite looks stretched and the floor looks all wrong).
    Detana! Twinbee!
    Cyber Cross.
    Coryoon Child of Dragon.
    Genji Tsushin Agedama.
    Hana Tahka Daka.
    S.C.I.
Shinobi (pretty good although level 2 is missing).
The Adventures of Mr. Heli (one of the best versions on a home platform).
    Bloody Wolf.
    Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams.

    there we go :D

EDIT: Oh if it supports Turbo Duo CDs also Check out.

    Lords of Thunder.
    Gate of Thunder.
    Double Dragon 2.
    Valis 1, 2, 3, and 4.
    Pang.

Why has no one metioned Out Run?? Arguably the best conversion of a brilliant arcade game, probably the best driving game ever.

I can't believe I forgot the games that practically put the machine on the map.

    The Bomberman Games....doh! :D

I would've said Cadash as well if it was ever released outside of Japan, basically cos' even though it has smaller graphics, it has all 4 characters available like the arcade unlike the Megadrive version which got rid of the Priest, and the Ninja who was the best character in the game and Sega removed him from the Megadrive version....what idiots!

Oh and talking of Outrun, There's a pretty decent conversion of Chase HQ for the PC Engine as well.

2 more japanese games I quite like are GOKURAKU! CHUKA TAISEN (which is basically just the japanese version of Cloud Master, but is slightly better than the master system version), and City Hunter.

EDIT: Here check this site out!

    http://www.pcengine.co.uk/

It's got pics, reviews, and videos of almost every PC-Engine game in existence, it even lists unofficial and unreleased games on there. The reviews aren't 100% spot on though they've called some OK games crap, and called some crap ones classics. But then again this machine is so touch n' go that everyone has their faves and turkeys in so many different ways to a more mainstream machine.

Half the reason I really like this machine is for Hudsons dodgy remakes of various other companies games, and the sheer volume of strange and obscure Jap software.

    It's awesome! :D

That's right. Chase HQ kept me occupied until I completed it, which due to the final level was AGES!!
