    its none of those??
paint says its attributes are 48 X 64
and its about 1.22 blah blah bytes

but what ive been doing for uploading pics for albums ive been uploading on a site is thus

1: copy a copy of the pic to desktop
    2: open paint
    3: file/open
    4: browse for pic
    5: click image / resize
6: change the horizontal / vertical %'s to like 50 / 50 so its half the size
    7: click file/save

try and upload again, quick and simple only takes 2 minutes to complete

I shall attempt to upload it again then, if it still will not accept it there must be another problem.

There's probably something amiss with how GD deals with the picture in that case (I've seen this before)

As above though, but edit it in something and save it without changes. Then it should upload OK.

i had a problem with one of the jpg files, trying to upload it to said site and it didnt like the format, even tho 99.9% of the other jpgs worked
i opened it in paint and saved it as a gif and it worked fine

I see it quite a bit (not here, I do forum support things for Invision), its something to do with the data in the image, so php does not think it is an image hence its rejected, but as you say in most cases, simply saving again 'fixes' :)

If you're saving as .JPG I do know that it's better to save those as "standard encoding" rather than lossless or even progressive ... I usually encounter issues with lossless more than progressive.
