Ah , the two games that SHOULD have made it to the final. Both great games, but as I consider AA to be the best Speccy game of all time, there's really only one choice.

    Atic Atac.

    Hyper Sports....though I think it'll be fourth :)

I'm going for Atic Atac, having played Hypersports on both the Spectrum & C64 back in the day, not discounting the programming quality of the Spectrum version, but the C64 one was better IMO, but then I also played the arcade version a lot too and that beat all the home versions.

Plus add the fact that it is an arcade conversion, it might be bias, but I think Spectrum originals come out tops almost by default in comparisons like this, maybe it's because I can't ignore the arcade version, which in 99% of cases is much superior to all the home conversions, with the originals having to stand by themselves.

It's got to be Atic Atac. All the early Ultimate games were jaw droppingly good, but it was better than the rest of them by the same sort of margin. Plus the basic idea was still being copied for the rest of the commercial life of the Spectrum.

Same as last time Atic Atac, Hypersports is an awesome game, but Atic Atac is a Speccy original that was instantly playable, infact it was so pick up and play that it's still extremely playable now all these years later.

Not that Hypersports isn't but Atic Atac must slide by.
    Every night is curry night!

Hypersports for me. Atic Atac is great, but Ultimate has better adventures.

With so many polls, I don't know what I'm voting... :p

    Still thinking healthily...

28 to 25 in Atic Atac's favour at the moment, so it's close. In the final, it's a bit more conclusive, with Skooldaze beating Manic Miner 41 to 26, although there's still time for either poll to change.

I wonder if anyone involved in making these games is watching for these results?Apart from the late Joffa no one invloved with any of these four games seems to be involved in, or particulary interested in being associated with, the retro scene. Matthew Smith surfaced briefly a few years ago, then disappeared again with no trace, and neither David Reidy nor Keith Warrington (respectively the programmer and the graphics artist behind Skooldaze) have had anything to do with the retro world as far as I know. And of course the Ultimate people (the Stampers and whoever else) stay well away from any publicity or fans, not just us retro-fanatics.

I am not sure if I should vote, because I actually do not really like any of these two games...

Just like the " real world cup " the 3rd place play off is more exciting than the final !

Just voted for Hyper Sports. Loved Decathlon but this game really was one step further, superb 2 player as well.

Atic Atac i like, nice old skool feel to it but Hyper Sports for me, 30-30 !

    Weirdo :-P

You'll be saying you don't like Irn Bru, Bat out of Hell, or breathing oxygen next... :-o

    What would Emily Panckhurst say?

I had to check her out, as I did not know at all who she was. After the reading, I do not know which game she might have preferred. Both seems to lack any female characters and concern only men involved in sport or violence, so perhaps she would have done as I: refused to vote!!!

    two layte.
  • Wow, very close! The game of the tournament for me and it almost went into extra time.

I guess both sides played a blinder with the pressure off. Good to see two very different games getting good support.
