Amazon shipping rates

edited September 2010 in Chit chat
Ok i do admire amazon for having control over limit what a seller can charge to post an item, but sometimes i think it can backfire too,i ordered stuff before but when came to shipping, sometimes it would be only ?1.79,even though the item itself would be possibility bulky, and usually this lead to stuff being sent back by royal mail due to item not being the acceptable price, anyone else experience this?

Yeah absolutely. I recently sold a couple of first year University textbooks, I wasn't looking to get rich from selling them, they were taking up room and I thought somebody could make better use of them than I was. Anyway, one was quite bulky, sold it for a tenner, after Amazon took their fees and I paid the correct postage, I literally made 6p profit.

Maybe a bit of naivety on my part, but next time, they're going to the charity shop!

it's not amazon really, ya mean market place?

errm different kettle of fish.. I ordered books for my sis.. cost a bloody fortune in postage.. they came from US etc.. so last time I ever used the "market place" part of amazon.

I just use ebay to flog stuff. I tried other places, but well might as well not have bothered.

I must be missing something here ... how does the package actually make it to and through the post office if it's supposed to be more expensive?

(Here's what I read from the post:
    1.Amazon sets the shipping charges.
2.Seller goes to post office, and "somehow" only has to pay maybe ?1.79 for a perhaps ?5.00 package.
3.The PO people at the front desk, ignore the scales, accept the wrong payment and let the package into the system
4.Eventually somewhere along the way the package is weighed and the actual price pops up but by now the package is already on its merry way and the postal delivery person is at the door, knocks on the door demanding more money for finishing the delivery, or as the case may be, it's returned.

Sorry, I'z so dum, I don't quite follo

ive not encountered a problem yet and ive bought loads on there, just yesterday i bought an 8 disc eurythmics cd boxset which mustve weighed a ton, but that was still only ?1.24 postage, never had any trouble recieving it, then again i wasnt in the missus recieved it.
same as its still ?1.24 postage even if they come from the US

ive never sold on there tho just bought and the cheap postage rates are great 99% of the time for buyers i suppose once in a blue moon it could go pear shaped and you have to pay extra or someat
