Here's something from the Book of Britain, before the Roman Catholic invasion of Britain. Its an initiation ceremony. This is what ancient people from Britain was taught from a young age.
Who will reward or punish me? I will.
Who besets my path with sorrow? I do.
Who can grant me a life of everlasting glory? I can.
Who must save me from the horror of malformation? I must.
Who will guide my footsteps through life? I will.
Who brings joy into my life and gladdens my heart? I do.
Who brings peace and contentment to my spirit? I do.
Who lightens the burdens of my labour? None but myself.
Whose courage will protect me from the workers of evil? My courage.
Whose wisdom will guide me and enlighten my heart? My wisdom.
Whose will rules my destiny? My will.
Whose duty is it to attend to my wants? My duty.
Who is responsible for my future state of being? I alone am responsible.
Who shields me from temptation? No one.
Who shields me from sorrow and suffering? No one.
Who shields me from pain and affliction? No one.
Who benefits from my toil and tribulation, my sorrow and suffering? Myself, if wise.
Who benefits from my temptations and afflictions, my sacrifices and austerities? Myself, if wise.

Maybe if these lessons were still followed, there'd be no need for psychiatrists. Or religion. The ancient books of Britain are the account of the Egyptian's search for the true creator of everything. After the Exodus and their defeat, they sought out the power of the Hebrew God, they didn't believe anymore in an external God, how could they after one God defeated ALL of their Gods. God was in everyman, as was the beast. It was the true reason of 'the original sin' of women, as they'd encouraged the beast in man which led to their demise. The aspirations of all men and women in Britain at that time was to encourage the God in man. There was no persecution or retribution until the catholic church took the teachings and twisted them.
The recent dna tests of Tutenkamen also validates these texts even more, as our dna in Britain is of the same type of the Pharoahs. Not to mention the ancient Egyptian leather bound book of psalms recently found in an Irish bog which the Irish national museum say is the greatest discovery ever in their history.
I'm sorry, but the Lateran Treaty does not establish the statehood of the Vatican; it is merely an acceptance by Italy of the Vatican's independence.
The only thing that establishes the Vatican as a state is that other states officially recognise it as a state. Indeed, this is true of all states, which leads to some circularity.
Also, I am of the opinion that the Vatican ought not to be recognised as a state; it is essentially a religious organisation (and a rather corrupt and malicious one at that), and allowing its claim to statehood just encourages the buggers (and possibly also the buggerers - oops, not allowed to talk about that in case ghbearman is 'offended'!)
Seriously though, the catholic church is a despicable organisation and I am ashamed that my country affords it such a high level of official recognition.
As for us paying for the pope's visit... Grr; very grr.
One also wonders about the constitutional position wrt. the Act of Settlement etc.; should we denounce the queen and government as papist traitors? :P
Dohhhhhhhh !
It looks like the death of this thread is now near !! Was hoping we would at least reach double figures !
i went out with a Latvian girl years ago, her dad was in his school yard when they came to take the Jewish children away (one of them being his best freind). later he was forced into the hitler youth, later than than he became a partisan.
im not saying the pope isn't a nazi, but i do find it upsetting to say just because you were in the hitler youth you are automatically a nazi.
even later than that i went out with a girl whose grandfather fought in the wermacht. he wasn't a nazi either.
EDIT - i tell you who defo was a Nazi, oscar schindler.
Its just annoying that my only sensible way of getting into town will be packed with god botherers all day on Sunday. No respect for us Car boot attendees.
If I was to insist that my house was a country and I was the absolute leader, people would call me a whackjob. Mr Popey gets an invitation to meet the Queen :-o
:-)
I apologise for the incorrect inference I drew from this post
Phew! Imagine working 8 day weeks! (or 7 cos we might get a 3 day weekend)
The 7 days of the week were apparently nothing to do with Genesis originally; they were tributes to the seven wandering stars in the sky that the Greeks could see at the time. Monday (Moonday), Tuesday (mardi - marsday), Wednesday (mercredi - mercuryday), Thursday (Jeudi - Jupiterday), Friday (Vendredi - Venusday), Saturday (Saturnday) and Sunday.
Makes you thank your lucky stars the Greeks didn't discover Uranus...

Then there's Wodin/Odin, Thor, and Freya to round out the week.
A much more likeable collection of deities than the three christian gods. Or, counted another way, the one christian god. Damned unnecessarily-complex theology.
So before Jesus came along then no one could talk to God?
If you want to see if the pope believes in God, as he claims, then just look at him in the pope-mobile. According to his "beliefs" he doesn't need the protection of man or man's material devices, as God will protect him. And if God does allow the pope to come to harm then it would be God's own will, and the pope would "willingly" accept that.
Erm, so why the bullet proof glass, the bodyguards, the security barricades, etc?
Could it be because the pope doesn't believe in the Great Sky Fairy any more than I do, the only difference being that he believes it's right to harvest money and power by pretending to believe in superstition, whereas I don't?
he's head of state! (the Vatican) - enough ignorance.
No offense mate, but how can someone who follows religion say "enough ignorance."?
That's like Tony Blair saying "Enough self-serving corruption", or me saying "Enough over-eating"
The fact is, you're defending the head of one of the richest organisations in the world, an organisation that practises and covers up the most hideous of crimes, is the largest land owner in the world, is said to have major links to arms manufacturers, is prejudice in ways that would not be tolerated in any non-religious group, and yet preaches love and tolerance.
So before Jesus came along then no one could talk to God?
Not quite. The Bible tells that before Jesus came along, only Jews were God's people. They were able to "talk with" God via sacrifices (various burnt offerings), prophets, kings, judges and high priests.
Jesus "came along" to provide a final, lasting sacrifice for everyone, i.e. not just the Hebrew nation who had at that time lost God's favour.

Don't worry, God can't count past 7...

i know, im not defending the pope.

saving the lives of all those people who were going to be bombed to death by those nasty foreigners? :p
Well somebody had to post it..........
no, I'm Protestant : )
I apologise for the incorrect inference I drew from this post
What British Embassy?
Its now the Foreign Commonwealth Office. Have you seen their advertisement on tv?
British Embassy is now in the hands of a foreign power (the state) like the rest of the country.

Then the Pope is redundant for you, as Protestants believe that they don't need an intermediary to talk to God for them !:-)
not quite, Jesus is the intermediary.

And if you're wondering where those crazy English names like "Tuesday" came from... Gasman has the answer!

That's just for those who believe in the trinity concept.
and those that believe in gods heh

Be back soon :D
EDIT: Hmmm looks like Normski fixed it using the original code, I couldn't be arsed to fiddle with it :D
