Toothache

edited September 2010 in Chit chat
I've got the worst toothache I've ever had, tried various painkillers (Codeine, neurofen, paramol, tramadol, cannabis) over the last week or so, none of which killed the pain. Tried using Orajel, which didn't work either. Even tried pulling my tooth out, which just made it worse. :x

Today I had a search on google, and apparantly garlic works. So I got a garlic clove, mashed it up and filled the hole with it. Instantly the pain was gone.:o
I left it in for about 15 minutes, then took it out, that was about an hour and a half ago, and still no pain. :D

I'm amazed at how effective garlic is. Never heard of it being used for toothache before. Had to share it with someone, although I expect a few people already knew about it.

Maybe I'll actually get a good nights sleep tonight.

No contest. Garlic breath is everyone elses problem :)

Spent between 10-15 quid on stuff from the pharmacy that didn't work.

    Garlic cost me 20p.

Dentist next week to get 5 teeth pulled out :-x

Did you use Garlic on it ?;)

Clove oil is good on toothache, but you ned to be a little cafeful in how you use it and how often. Clove oil can burn its way through steel, so take care of decorative surfaces, and stomach linings. You can also get an emergency filling pack at some of the ?1.00 shops, I haven't tried it, but I have one in my First Aid Kit. It is best not to put off toothache for too long either, a family member left an aching tooth for ages as he was frightened of going to the Dentist. The tooth became infected and the blood poisoning he got, nearly killed him.

could have used a loaf of garlic bread as a splint to fix it...
(ok, so ya'd get frost bite.. but still)

toothache always remind me of the scene in marathan man...
does clove oil work also? is that an old wivies tale?

I spend ?200 last week, the **** said the inlay they put in would be white.. but it's gold... :(
thing is , it's prolly the smallest cavity / hole in the tooth and it causes the most pain.

I bump into someone at work with the nickname "garlic jack" , he eats 5-8 cloves of it a day and reeks of it , as you skin puts it out.. errm but it's good mossy repellent apparently

I've used clove oil before, and it worked OK, but the relief doesn't last long. I couldn't find anywhere local that sells it though.

But you've reminded me of the time I used olbas oil my tooth, thinking it was clove oil. That hurt.

Call me crazy but how about simply going to the dentist ?

What next - getting a deep gash in your leg which goes septic and using maggots on it instead of going to A&E !

I've not got a dentist, none of the dentists here are taking on new patients. I'm going to phone the emergency dentist next week. I can't do much this week or last week, as I've got kids to look after. I can do it next week though.

Also I don't like dentist, got a bit of a phobia type thing. Hopefully it got so bad that they have to do it at the hospital and knock me out first.

What's wrong with using maggots, next you'll be telling me I shouldn't have these leeches down my pants. ;)

For a moment I thought you had put Lychees down your pants:smile:

Maggots are the perfect thing, but not for teeth, yes Clove oil works wonders but as has been said, not too long lasting, some of us are old enough to have been brought up on these old cure alls, just because they preceeded the internet, does not mean they are any less real. The internet is more kooky than some of the old folk cures and no I dont mean things like wipe a wart with a piece of meat, bury it, and as the meat rots, so the wart vanishes, that is Witchcraft !

Yeah sorry mate i read the rest of the thread and saw you were then sorting out a dentist so i edited my post.

I know what you mean, i hated the dentist (Had a big bike accident when i was younger so was in the dentists tons as a kid), didnt go for 15+ years. One of my teeth broke on a frickin nut in my cereal so i had to go. Didnt need any fillings which i was proud of but needed that tooth repaired.

I must admit the dentist seemed far far far better than how i remembered back in the 80's/early 90's. The pain seemed far less from what i thought it would be like.

I did (ahem) ask for the gel to put on my gum so i couldnt feel anything - they normally do that for kids but hell it worked !

Mate, get Oil of Cloves (Clove Oil) when you have a toothache, you can get it from any chemist, or supermarket. It's just a natural cure for pain killer, with no artifical ingrediants, but IT WORKS. It's amazing, you just rub it on your gums, and it instantly kills most of the pain. It doesn't last for long, so you'll be putting some more on again in half-an hour, and it tastes terrible, but you don't care as it's a million times better than having to put up with the toothache.

Doesn't make you drowsy, or effect your driving or anything. I always have some with me, as I hate toothache so much.

And yes, I know that this sounds like an advert, but I'm serious. I have toothache really bad one Sunday years ago, and my mum (who has lots of herbal remedies, all of which (I've tried) don't seem to work) told me to try it, so I did (out of pure desperation) and it works! It's amazing how quickly it works, but it does.

    Tastes revolting, though.

But of course a dentist the only long term solution, and I hope you get it sorted out with minimum fuss. I hate dentists, but I attend mine every six months without fail, as it's so much better than tooth problems.

Tesco didn't have any clove oil. Turns out I do have some, but it's 11 years out of date. Off to boots now. Although the garlic still seems to be working, but I'm getting a bick sick of the taste and smell.

There is a painkiller gel kinda thing call Ambisol (I think) that work great.. Just try not to get it on your tongue (only your gums ok) otherwise you may have problems talking as it numbs everything it touches.... Always work for me.. :)

P: Don't mistake it for Anusol :( That's for the other end of your body, lol
    So far, so meh :)

Good timing or what, I have just had a NHS leaflet through telling you how to brush your teeth, thank god it came in time whilst I still have a tooth left. It says you MUST use Floride toothpaste and NOT rinse your mouth after brushing well apart from the fact that Flouride is poisonous to all forms of life and that it kills your teeth. The only reason it was put into toothpaste in the first place was that this waste product from industry was costing a fortune to dump at sea, so they had to think of a way of disposing of it I think I will bin the advice leaflet, like I did with the one telling me how to wash my hands !

Sorry for posting about Clove Oil after you'd written about it - I didn't have time to read the whole thread at the time, and wanted to help if I could, by advising about Clove Oil (all I know, though I'll try Garlic too if I have another problem, as you say it lasts longer than Clove Oil.

Hope you get the problem sorted out soon (and not too expensively!).

Apparently Flouride makes the tooth enamel hard but brittle. Leading to more visits to the dentist. I have a stock of Euthymol toophpaste I got off Ebay from very old stock. Its very good, doesn't have flouride. Try and buy it now in the shops and it has Aspartame in it! Why the f'ing hell put an artificial sweetner in a toothpaste? Anyway the older one tastes better too. The new aspartame one is gross. Its really hard to get a toothpaste without artificial sweeteners and fluoride these days.

And fluoride is in our water supply, bottle water or a purifier is the only option if you want to drink water. And Hitler used it in the concentration camps to keep the poor souls dosile, like brainwashed sheep. Apparently it can also calcify the pituitary gland and pineal gland in the brain in large or continued doses. Big problems in countries with fluoridated water is obesity and heart problems, I wonder why?

from wiki, this list of things the pituitary does is like a list of problems with health in the country:

    ///////
Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland help control the following body processes:

Growth Excess of HGH can lead to gigantism.
    Blood pressure
Some aspects of pregnancy and childbirth including stimulation of uterine contractions during childbirth
    Breast milk production
Sex organ functions in both men and women
    Thyroid gland function
The conversion of food into energy (metabolism)
Water and osmolarity regulation in the body
Secretes ADH (antidiuretic hormone) to control the absorption of water into the kidneys
    Temperature regulation
    //////////

And ones spirituality and sense of reality/awareness may come from the pineal gland.
    Its just an observation.
