Moon Patrol / Moon Buggy

edited September 2010 in Games
Does anyone know why Moon Patrol was completed but never released for the Speccy?
I've just reviewed it - it moves along far too slowly - is this why it was never released?
You would think Atarisoft would look for some return on the time they spent coding the thing!

I think the game is 'okay' at best by the way.

There was that Ocean unofficial version, the one with the Indiana Jones theme when you complete a section. It was better, but no classic when compared with the Colecovision spin-off Matt Patrol, for example.

Atarisoft never released Robotron: 2084 either.

I recall Luna-Rover being okay, but it's been over two decades since I last played it.

I've never played Moon Patrol (or Luna-Rover), but Robotron 2084 was brilliant, and would have sold lots, so I don't know why it was never released. Definitely a great Speccy game.

I'm so curious as to why Moon Patrol or Robotron were never released.
It just seems a bit odd to me. They are hardly the worst games ever, there were plenty of worse titles to pick from:p

well robotron was gonna be on a cart.. interface 2.. there was a wild west game, same thing before.so atari got them to write it.

I think it was conflict of interest maybe + piracy.. atari + c64 versions were released on carts.. and atari 800 etc was out.. atarisoft put stuff out on bbc if IRC

I remember the bootleg "mr ee" became the official mr. do

what did they put out though ? pole position and Galaxian and maybe the sales weren't there.. David Aubrey-Jones did galaxians (but it never said who did pole position), if the name sounds familour.. he did loads of speech for games, things like ghost busters etc.

there were a few inspired moon buggy / patrol games.. anirog / anco put one out also..

    play buggy blast instead :)

the one that interested me more though was jungle hunt.. it was put out on a lot of formats , but not speccy.. I have it on ti-99 also.

Atarisoft also released the offical PacMan on the Speccy too - which wasn't as good as it should have been.
