Right guys ive decided to buy a Speccy from ebay, preferbally with a few games to get me started etc but ive noticed that the photos of them dont seem to show a tape deck or anything? just leads a powerpack and the system itself (i assume u dont need a monitor cos they can be plugged in a ordinary TV)

Does that then mean i have to then find someone selling a tape deck etc before playing anything?

Soz guys i know i really should know this but ive never actually ever played on a real speccy only via emulation

Thanks in advance

In short, yes, although I'd double check with the seller. If oyu want an easy starting point, it might be worth looking elsewhere.

Depends what kind of Speccy you're getting.
    If it's a 48k, 48k+,original 128k (looks just like the 48k+) or a +3 then you'll need an external tape deck. If it's a +2 or +2a then it's built in.

Also, bear in mind that unlike certain other 8-bits, the Speccy doesn't require a proprietary tape recorder - any old player will do (the classic 'shoebox' type being the old favourite), or for that matter any sufficiently loud audio source - people have reported good results from burning the wave files to CD or squirting MP3s from an iPod (although speed loaders can be troublesome in the latter case).

i was surprised to find our local electronic shop still selling the usual speccy type tape recorders....with the ear and mic sockets, i thought theyd have disappeared by now?? what else do people use em for apart from loading speccy games? lol

you can also load games off the pc straight into your speccy using an emu like spin or spectaculator

According to my local electronics shop, they're used mostly by teachers and journalists.
