I've had a few people (old people !) mention about 'terry towling' or something. Basically not disposable nappies, you get some towels which you use for nappies which you then wash over and over. Sod that ! Its not the year 1955 ! Disposable for me 100% !

I mean its one thing doing a nappy, then having to wash/rinse a soiled nappy, sod that !!

Well I will say that we have gone down the re-usable nappy route. In fact I brought 11 more on ebay tonight. Youre right its not 1955 anymore, neither is it the 80's. Re-usable nappies come with poppers, or velcro so you don't have to mess with safety pins. They also come in a range of designs and styles and thus are much more fetching than disposable ones. Finally, disposables have a lower impact on the environment and your wallet. Also so I have been reading reusable ones lower the chances of nappy rash.

Yeah ! I've already had one hippy moan to me about the environment etc. (He uses his car and not public transport yet bleats on to me about using disposables !).

    I'm quite happy using disposables.

Dont tell me an old Volvo that belches out smoke.

congrats :) (moreso to scotties wife who actually had to do the work)

it's funny the change in my friends when they have had kids. e.g one was a boy racer.. soon toned that down.

I visited a married friend earlier who I'd not seen in years. His 2 kids aren't toddlers now, the old joke came out about.. obviously the kids take after their mum looks wise... (gotta be done and was good for a windup :) )

I need explanation for word disposable. The dictionary returned "for one use", so you mean by disposables for one usage, or for repeated use ?
  • Disposable nappies are worn once then thrown away

I have twin baby girls who used up to 20 nappies a day when they were born.
Disposable were/are way more convenient in our situation. Otherwise we'd have used the washing machine almost 24/7 :).

Talking of washing machines we've had some bad luck lately.

First the boiler went (cost a packet), a few days later once it was sorted (the missus also said 'bet something else goes wrong now !') the fridge went. Finally got that fixed, 10 days after the fridge was sorted out now the washing machine has packed in ! Sods law!

I remember that report - or something like it - being published. Was it the one where they assumed that users of cloth nappies were ironing them?

One thing I tried my best to avoid was the popular name mistake. I see so many parents going like.

'Oh we going to call her Isabel because its such a lovely name and we don't know anyone with that name'. In fact so many people have done this that Isabel is now the most popular girls name in the UK. Jack is the most popular boys name.

Its like people are unwitting sheep and when choosing names unconsciously flock to certain ones. Names also have a 100 year cycle of becoming popular and then unpopular. Probably due to people naming them after deceased relatives. For example in the 80's a kid would not have been called Alf, Frank, Aubrey, Ivor, Harry, or Florence; but now these names are coming back.

However, I bet when we send ours to school he'll not be the only George.

Yeah my mates kid is called George. But its a great name which has been popular in lots of eras. Still laugh when I'm in town and i hear the names of some little kid, so many names seem chavvy but then theres also a huge bunch of names which seem to be so OTT. Like i say too many people think theyre Chris Martin. I honestly honestly heard a 'Tarquin' name a few weeks back, poor kid. That'll automatically get him beaten up at school with a name like that.
