I used to go and watch Crewe Kings every week until it closed down. Only been to a couple of meetings since.

It was a Jawa 500 that cost me most of my left knee and put me off racing bikes for life. Still love watching it though.

My ex from a fair few years back was heavily into Speedway. She did the main website (or the main fan website) for the Swindon team and kept updating that constantly.

Never been a fan but seem to have a loyal fanbase

Funny you should mention it, for the last couple of months I've been watching it on Sky and really enjoying it. Old sport making a comeback? I used to be able to hear the bikes a few miles away at the old West Ham speedway track, bloody hell that must have been the late sixties / early seventies, makes me feel old. Not sure I'd ever go to a meet although on telly you miss the smells which I imagine can be quite nicely smelly like banger / stock car racing.

I used to go and watch the Eastbourne Eagles every weekend every season they raced for about 3 years ( about 1971 to 1974 ). I used to bring the full size full colour posters home with me, which were free, and sell them to classmates at school. I should have been a budding Richard Branson, but I somehow never made it. I don't think anything has the same smell as speedway, it is smelly and loud, but the hamburgers with onion gravy in buns, made it worthwhile !
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........
