Oz was good then it just got too bizarre, the last episode I ever watched the neo Nazi who had the black man's gums transplanted into his mouth got a teaspoon shoved up his arse.
I figured it was time to stop watching it after that
Oz started really well, i downloaded all i think 6 seasons were there ? After a great start it then just got bizarre and ridiculous. Shame.
As for the Sopranos its a classic, my folks bought me that on dvd last Xmas, havent watched it yet (ahem !) as i've had a lot of other shows to go through.
But i need to re-watch it, epic tv. Kinda glad it ended as it could have gone on and on and then got cut.
Yeah the Wire is the next one i want to watch, found the first episode a bit tough to get into but lots of people rave on about it so i need to get back and watch tons of em !
Also Sons of Anarchy seems to be alright
Anyway off to watch the latest episode of the Office which was available this morning !

I watched the first series of The Wire earlier this year and, yes, the first couple of episodes don't really grab but it slowly reels you in after that. I think the reason is that it's a show that relies heavily on its cast of characters (which is enormous, by the way, you really have to pay attention) and, in the first couple of episodes, the viewer hardly knows them so there's little investment.
Something else to take into account is that it breaks TV convention by each series basically being one long story, it's not structured around its episodes. There are a few cliffhangers but most of the time they just end on something relatively mundane. There's also no "previously on The Wire" or any other "helping hands" for the viewer, and it's one of the few TV dramas that assumes the audience is intelligent.
And it's very good. I'm not wild about US TV (I find it harder to relate to than UK TV) or police drama but it's so well written with such good characters and it's such a fascinating look at politics in both the Baltimore police and organised crime that I really enjoyed it.
It's not perfect - there's the occasionally bit of clunkiness or contrived plotting - but it's mostly head and shoulders above most drama, especially writing-wise.
Cheers fella nice post. I'll give it a go pretty soon, like i say the first episode didnt grab me in and i was thinking 'i thought people rave about this ?!' but i'll for sure give it a go very soon.
Not many shows i watch now, 24/Lost/Prison Break/Sopranos have all ended.
Currently watching Office USA and thats it really regarding downloads, oh yeah Clone Wars as well, V starts next month (surprised they didnt cancel that).

Perfect explanation.
You may also find it quite difficult to hear what they're saying as in some cases they mumble or their accents are incredibly strong (the two Brits give great "accent" performances). Stick with it though, it is the best TV program I've ever seen.
I think my "click" episode was where McNulty and Bunk investigate the previous murder in the kitchen and basically the only words they say for five minutes is "muthaf*****". It sounds crude, but it is incredibly funny!
there was a short mini series a few years back called "The Corner". That was by HBO and was pretty good. I never got to see the ending of it as it got buried into a shit time slot, but I brought it on DVD a while ago in HMV for about ?12. that's well worth checking out!

Aye I watched that back in 02 or 03 when it was on at about 2am, was pretty good, I thought a nice touch was that they actually interviewed some of the real people who were involved in the actual real life events the show is based on.
Has anyone watched HBO's Generation Kill? I've heard good things about that and it's by the same writer (and features many of the cast) of The Wire. I've got it on my HD but the uploader thought it would be a good idea to concatenate every episode into one massive file just over the magic 4Gb (so it's still massively compressed on said HD).
Over the last couple of weeks I've been watching Dexter from the start in anticipation of season 5.
I'd forgotten how good it is. Even season 2 which I thought initially was poor is amazing.
Some great characters in it. My fave is Masuka. Anyone who has the line, "Science is a cold hearted bitch with a 14inch strap on!" has to be cool, right?

That's right. I think it was bassed on the directors real life experiences I think. I'll have to dig the box set out and have another watch.

then you clearly haven't been watching Mad Men...
May God forgive me, but I'm inclined to say that it's even beter than the Sopranos (and I thought that the Sopranos where an act impossible to top!)
