"Paid" is the monetary recompense you actually get for the work you do.
There are lots of jobs where the two are not the same, eg Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand (paid more than they earn), nurses, teachers, firefighters (paid less than they earn).

Earn=Pay for me. Boooooo. I earn a reasonable amount - in fact if I didn't have 2 kids I'd be pretty flush(partly because my needs are simple) - as it is though I've got 2 kids.........so a few days before the end of each month my account is bare.......I worry about being 35 and having no savings at all.....

I'm a teacher and reckon I get paid well, but a lot of my colleagues moan about the pay. After 10 years you get paid about 36 grand, with no extra responsibility if you don't want it. And all the holidays are great. Good deal if you ask me
