Well, up to level 12 in Fallout: NV, and I've just received my first bit of good karma. Really interesting quest actually, involving plants (I'll say no more). After reading comments here about the way it ends, I'm steering well clear of the main story for as long as possible.

yeah it was a good mission that.
im not really noticing that karma has a lot to do with the game, it seems to be more about if you help a faction or attack them.
i am up to level 25 now, just taken out a whole nest of deathclaws.
still finding new areas and new quests.
gonna hit some areas with big monsters that i couldn't explore properly before, then take on the last missions.
it seems to me that the 'achievment missions' have the biggest exp
i'll be glad to get rid of my character, all the way through he has had a womans voice, its well anoying.
and another pleasent little but deleted my weapon mods for my rifle, all 3 of them, which was nice.
hopefully by the weekend i will be able to start again with a truely evil character.

Are there not achievements for reaching certain levels with different states of karma? (I haven't looked at the achievements yet, don't wanna ruin it by seeing which quests are in there.)
Crikey!! A whole nest of deathclaws?? Bugger that... I can't even take on one of them at the mo (I'm sure they're tougher than in Fallout 3). I think it's easy enough to avoid them though really, although one quest I came across required me to find a deathclaw egg for a deathclaw omlette recipe or something. My dude's just not that tough yet really... I even got completely ruined by a bunch of insects last night (called cazadores, or something along those lines). Tough game.

Deathclaws were tough in Fallout3, but my level 30 character has killing them with one shot of a laser pistol in the end. I'm with you in that I think they are far tougher in this game. I came across a "blind" one in a canyon, but even he's onto me within a second of me getting anywhere near close to him.
I'm also getting killed by insects here too :( Just bog standard flying ones seem to be able to kill me in 2 or 3 hits and my guns don't really seem to have much effect on them either. Same with the larger rad scorpions (the blue ones), those almost always kill me too. I can usually take care of one, but if there are more than that, I'm stuffed!
I've not had chance to play this for a week and won't get chance again until well into next week either. I'm only level 7 at the moment, so i have a long way to go (what is the level cap in this one?). Also, I don't always seem to be able to choose a perk evertime I level up. Twice now, I've leveled up and only had points to dish out, but no perk afterwards. I hope it's not just a bug in my game :(

I found deathclaws easier before because of the dart gun... it cripples their legs in one shot, and they're easy to kill when they're just hobbling about. And yes, giant radscorpions are a proper pain in the backside. The "entomologist" perk helps that a lot though, it may be worth investing a level-up on that perhaps. In F: NV, some of them actually poison you too, and your health constantly drains until you use an antidote, which I haven't seen many of (I think I've only picked up two). You can make them, but I don't think I've managed to find the ingredients for them yet.
About the perk thing; I'm pretty sure you get to pick one at every other level? I could be wrong though, I'll keep an eye on it from now on and let you know.
Oh, and I think Daren and Mile mentioned the cap being at level 30.
Yeah, perks every OTHER level (when you reach an even-numbered level), and the level cap is 30.
So you have to plan your levelling very carefully to get the perks you want from the reduced number available. Do it now whilst you're still on a pretty low level. Have a look at the list of perks and plan when to get them. You need to make sure you've got the required special and/or skill level for certain perks.
i can kill deathclaws with my lvl 25 (100 gun skill) with about 5 shots from a sniper rifle. and even then its a bit touch and go as its hurtling towards you.
not really sure about blind deathclaws, came across a few, but i just steered clear.
the cazadors though, yup i just run away, they give me a right pain, 2 or 3 is fine but a whole bunch and they do me.
the large rad scorpions are easy like in F3, you just run, or just jump on a massive rock and throw grenades at them. not saying they aren't tough, but they are easy to exploit.
but the flying ones just swarm you, you barely last 5 seconds.
just got up to level 27 now, so heading for my main missions tomorrow now. im guessing that i will cap out during them. i will try to let you know a rough ammount of xp that you will expect to get after 'the point of no return'.
Aye, those insects are really difficult... I don't seem to be able to deal them much damage, but they kill me in a few stings. Would help if I had some better armour though... I'm wearing metal armour in bad condition, can't seem to find any more to repair it with (I'll have to get some from the Gun Runner bloke, but it's a bit pricey).
Had my first "turn the game off in frustration" moment so far last night, trying to get through some kind of artillery range (Boomer territory). Bloody annoying, that... I'll see if have more luck with it later.

yeah i don't seem to find a lot of armour either. i tend to use the leather reinforced armour and pay for it to be repaired. the ncr armour and powder ganger armour is easy to find and repair yourself, but you have to remember to take it off all the time dependant on which people you are dealing with.
i made it to the boomer camp last night. its a bit tricky. but if you keep to the left, go into the first house and hide there, the shells will eventually stop for a minute or so. then just leg it north, they wont catch up with you again.
anyone tried the new zombie patch for Red Dead Redemption?
Yeah, it's pretty funky! Definitely worth it at 800 points....although it can get a bit repetitive having to "clean" towns all the time. There's a lot of stuff in it though and the missions take place all over the map, with new random events too...I'm about halfway through it and have been playing for around 6 hours or so..
And the whole zombie thing is great! Puts a whole new spin on the game....:D
I've been playing other stuff as well..Just completed Bioshock 2 which turned out to be almost as good as the first one...and I've just picked up Metro 2033 for a tenner, which is set in future Russia and involves trailing through tunnels trying to survive and fight mutants....thought I might as well give trailing around some future wasteland a go until I can afford New Vegas!
Just been playing GoldenEye on the Wii. A pretty good game so far, I'm part way through the first mission. Very polished and good graphics. Not tried online yet.

Aye, I've not seen much decent armour about. Not like Fallout 3 anyway, couldn't stop finding armour in that... I had cupboards full of the stuff.
I'm gonna get on the Xbox in a wee while and try your method of getting through the camp. I didn't last five paces when I had a go... almost made it to one of the houses, but I soon became a puddle of limbs!!

I keep seeing that when I'm around town. Looks rather good, might get that myself...

If your having trouble with armour, or guns pick the Jury Rigging perk when available it makes life a hell of a lot easier, plus you can make a shed full of caps up at the gun runners later.

Yep, I'll be getting that perk in a couple of levels when my repair skill is up to the required value of 90.
It looks well handy - basically you can repair any item with a similar item. Meaning you can repair your rare armour with most of the other common pieces of armour found all over the place. Same goes for weapons.
the last mission was appaling. very poor ending compared to F3. i had to switch it to an easier setting right at the end too, as i ran out of ammo and therre was no way to get anymore.
when i say poor, i mean you didn't do anything, sort of just went and killed a fella not even a main baddie. I was expecting a moral choice right at the end like in F3, but no nothing. you made your choice much earlier when you decided on the faction to support.
gonna reload a save and do 2 of the other endings. then start off a fresh character to do the last one. which im gonna do
the end titles were really good, a lot longer that the ones in F3.
have been looking at my achivements. some of them look like a right bugger to get.
for instance one is to heal 10,000 points of damage with stimpack. i got about 8,000 at the end of my games. doable
heal 10,000 points of damage with food. thats gonna be a nightmare. :-P
That's some going mile. Did you still have a lot of side quests still left?
I'm over 40 hours in and on level 19. Not done much of the main quest. I usually only play big games like this just the once - but put everything into the one playthrough. So it usually takes me some time to finish them. I can't be arsed playing through such games again and re-doing stuff.
My Oblivion save file reached over 400 hours, and Fallout 3 about 150. I don't anticipate finishing New Vegas for a good while yet. And when I do, that'll be it, I won't play it again (until the DLC comes out).

not so many active quests left. maybe 2 or 3. but there were plenty of place's i hadn't explored and a few factions i had't had a lot of dealings with so i think there were a few that i had not activated.
my biggest worry was the level cap. in F3 i lost all motivation to play when i wasn't making my character any better.
i think my F3 game time was about 100 hours, and with the dlc another 30.
i have the feeling that the dlc for new vegas will be just aditions to the main game rather than a continuation of the main quest.
Thought I'd take a wee break from Fallout: NV tonight, and play some PC stuff instead. Tried a game that had been sitting on my hard drive untouched for a while now, an old game called In Memoriam (or Missing Since January in the US). Plot goes something like this: two reporters are abducted by a serial killer, who then sends an encrypted CD-ROM to their agency, which contains a series of puzzles that (I imagine) eventually lead you to him. I'm only an hour or so in, and it's really quite mad. You give the game your email address so you can receive emails from characters in the game, and you are required to search for clues on the internet (both using sites purposely made for the game, and real sites)... and with each test you pass, the killer sends you another snippet of the reporters' video diary.

Bizarre, but rather compelling...
I think I was going to play this a while ago, but from what you describe is going on my somewhat questionable copy may run into some trouble, as erm shall we say games with an online discount (...ahem by which I mean 5 fingered in the none virtual sense) usually have trouble with any internet connectivity.
My copy of Diablo II basically tells you you're a robbing git if you try to play it online

Just picked up Alpha Protocol on the 360 for a tenner. It got awful reviews (well, from IGN and Gamespot anyway), but I've always kinda liked the thought of an espionage RPG, so I thought I'd give it a bash at that price. Played it for an hour or so, seems ok so far... but I think I'll leave it there until I've gotten through Fallout: NV.
I've had a bash of Silent Hill Origins again this morning after not playing any games for almost a week.
Quite quite a bit further than last time I played it, and I'm in the sanitarium right now. Got killed by the first thing that attacked me. Although I'll be honest I wasn't really trying too hard to win. Since I'd just saved and my wife was yarking on about me finishing my game so we can watch telly together or some bumph like that :D
A bad back has meant less time at the desk PC and more at the games consoles. Found myself playing Fable again (most recent save game was from 2008!) and finally beat the Arena quest. Lots of monster-slaughtering later and I've reached the bit where Jack of Blades has you chucked into prison.

The thing with Fable/The lost chapters that i found is that if you fully max the enflame spell then it all becomes a little to easy.
*slight spoiler*
If you max enflame and use it in the cemetry where the hollowmen/skeletons keep respawning, you can gain oodles of XP
yeah i did find one, broke it and made it my stead. but then it never came back when i did a mission.
does it go back to my ranch?
