On the wireless tonight...

edited November 2010 in Chit chat
Alright folks,

Well, I always thought that I had a face for radio, and now I'm going to see if I have a voice for radio too. Fledging Cheshire radio station for Crewe and Nantwich, The Cat, will tonight have a 'special' guest to talk about the 8-bit indy development scene and other 8-bit related stuffs. You can listen online by clicking http://www.thisisthecat.com/ from 21:00 GMT onwards. You may also send some questions in regarding indy developments and/or 8-bits as long as they are not too taxing to studio<SPAM>@thisisthecat.com (you knows which bit to remove). Please avoid the "which is better, the Speccy or the C64?" sort of questions as we all know the answer to that one.

A note for younger people, words like "C*mm*d*re", "C64" and other mild swear words will be used during this broadcast, so if you don't want your mind currupted, then don't listen. You have been warned!

Regards,

Shaun.

I might just tune in! Will there be a recording of the event?

I should point out that the email will only work whilst it's broadcasting, if you want to ask questions before hand, you may as well leave a post here. I may also let the Cat out of the bag later, if I get the nod from the powers that be.

    Regards,

    Shaun.

It should be available to download afterwards, not 100% sure of the Station's policy here because they may not have a lot of server space to store old shows for a long time.

However, I'm sure the host will record it as he's diligent like that.

Well, if you want to start a debate now, which is the best post-commercial 8-bit game then? My vote goes to... oh, you'll have to listen and find out.

    Regards,

    Shaun.

Yikes! - how do you choose one new game without offending WOS members?

Okay, make it your top five then :D or briefly say why you like the game you've chosen.

To be honest, I don't have a favourite because it all depends on my mood. If I'm in a shooting mood, then it might be splATTR, or if I want 'edutainment' then that'd have to be Loco Bingo.

That's a bit fairer me thinks...

We're just deciding on the music for the two hours, well I can it's definitely going to be the weirdest mix of music on the radio tonight, but with my limited knowledge of music, what can I say.

It's a shame I didn't have more time to gain permission to play MP3 versions of tunes like the music from splATTR or something.

    Regards,

    Shaun.

Just under half an hour to go... Apparently, for better or worse, it's been recorded and can be listened to again and again.

And the verdict anyone? The chat, not the music, by the way ;-)

Well, as I said, at the time of writing I've only listened to the last half hour or so, but yeah...what I heard was pretty cool...

I would probably listen to it every week if it was all retro stuff...see if you can blag your own retro show! :)

Yes, I'm listening to it now. I like the bit about the Spectrum+ "it had a better keyboard, and..well I don't....it had a plastic keyboard.." :) Thank god you corrected yourself there! Quite content based, actually, surprising for the radio. It's good.

A weekly retro show would work better if I had some broadcast quality 'chip tunes', and could play them legally, as Peter explained to me before the show. But I've been invited back at some point in the future, which is good.

Just had a listen, good stuff! Is that shop still going in Crewe that used to sell C= stuff? Up near the old newspaper offices, cant remember the name but when I lived there I actually bought a 1581 drive (for quite a high price!)

Unfortunately and sadly not as Tony passed away a few years back :-(

Thats sad to hear  I'll always remember that shop, still selling 8 bit software well into the 90's for the original prices that they were selling for in the 80's, never stopped me buying stuff though

So it appears from the end of the interview that this could be a (fairly) regular slot on this station. That's certainly some kind of a breakthrough...
