I agree that a permanent (or even a temporary one so soon after his previous ban) for ewgf does seem somewhat harsh. If ewgf and foggy can just agree to not talk about it in public, then ewgf could come back, I'm sure.
As for not much Speccy activity, there have been over 50 games released this year so far and there is lots of activity at foreign language forums (I spend more time at http://zx.pk.ru/index.php than here, for example - that forum is incredibly busy and has sub-sections for pretty much everything a spec-chum could want).
WoS is one of the most important hubs for Speccy news and development, etc and long may it last.
Yet the people who constantly moan about chit-chat just don't seem to be able to stay out of it no matter how many times they say they're staying away from it.

I don't think I'd be able to stand a forum with a rule like that for very long, unless the moderators were completely awesome at what they did. Arguments about moderation should be handled the same way as arguments about religion or fox hunting or Commodore 64s: conducted in a constructive civil manner, controlled with warnings and thread closures if personal attacks drown out the useful conversation, and only bringing the banhammer in if the offender is disrupting the forum after repeated warnings (as in, spamming the forums with their attacks).

EWGF was banned, but foggy left the option available for other mods to un-ban him. Nobody has. No matter how much I think some folks on here are dickheads (and there's not many, I even quite like Mile), when the mods as a whole seem to agree with foggy's decision, then I for one trust that he did the right thing.
Of course, it would be nice to see why, but that's between EWGF and the mods. And there's only one of them hang around in #spin, so the chances of bias are pretty slim.

Well I apologise if by starting this thread i've caused more harm. That was certainly never my intention, I was just shocked at Ewgf's sudden appearance and sudden disappearance. It would be good to have him back so if an agreement can be reached that would be very welcome. I don't think banning people is ever good and i'm sure as a mod, that's the last thing you want to do. Like I mentioned elsewhere we're all old enough to behave like adults, so it really is daft when situations like there arise.

If so, then I'm sorry I seemed to miss the point..it's just I thought you meant it wasn't being discussed in Chit Chat, which this forum isn't for....Sinclair Miscellaneous would be the place for anything that didn't fall under one of the other forums I believe..
And if there's something new on the Speccy happening that people aren't talking about but should be, bring it to people's attention! :) We can't chat about stuff if we don't know about it!
Remember too though that a lot of people are just here to chat about the old games and might not be too technically minded or interested in that type of stuff...as I've mentioned elsewhere on WOS, I myself have about as much tech-savvy as a fishcake...but I do find some stuff interesting and/or impressive even if I don't know how it works!! But that won't be the case for everyone....
If it's new games or stuff like that I'm sure most people would be chatting away about them quite merrily!!

if im honest ive never been a big fan of EWGF, i just was saddened that this has happened in the forum, as far as i can tell he hasn't done that much wrong. maybe he had the wrong attitude after his 2 week sorjon.
not sure about how other people feel, but i got banned, id be happy for the mods to explain the reasons behind it, much like they do when a thread is locked.

I must admit i used to write long waffley posts here, i was a fan of ewgf as when he arrived and started posting a lot my posts seemed tiny compared to his (hmmm reading that back that sounds a bit odd, i AM talking about posts)
Ok, just to be perfectly clear - I don't think that the chit-chat forum per se is killing WOS - it serves a useful function (and that's why it was set up in the first place), but that the amount of new speccy-related stuff in general is in gradual decline.
Well, that's what you would think from reading the forums at any rate - as Alarm pointed out, those foreign types are going great guns and we don't seem to be "cashing in" on this activity.
And I really don't want WOSF to go down the crapper - that's just an in-joke that's been doing the rounds.

Sounds like this was done unilaterally to me, regardless of whether or not the other mods later agreed with it.
Going to talk to ewgf via pm/emails as thats the most sensible way to do it.
