What I always loved about Police Squad! more than the Naked Gun films was that in the series, Drebin was essentially the straight man and everything around him was lunacy, where in the films he was the idiot and the other around him were generally serious.
I always preferred the series version of Drebin. And it was a crime that Johnny the shoe shine guy was never in the films too. He was a brilliant character.
Another nice touch was that you could tell which episode number you were watching by how many dustbins he drives into when parking.

I always loved Johnny the shoeshine guy, i also liked the pretend freeze frame at the end of each epsisode. I've got the whole Police Squad on dvd, i think i'll dig it out and watch it again, it still makes me laugh.

If you actually watch the names in the creits, I think you'll find that at least Sally decker is mentioned there too ;-)
R.I.P
Actually, if you follow each episode in order, they are referencing all the criminals from previous shows.
