I can't even figure out what you're trying to say there... why would all homophobes be xenophobic?

I think he means that as xenophobia is "an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange" , and someone being gay, or a different race could be seen as 'foreign', it somehow also classes as xenophobia.

Though it's an innacurate statement, as there are many exceptions. For instance, I've heard of homophobic homosexuals, and people with hatred towards their own race. In these cases, the thing they hate or fear is not strange or foreign to them, and therefore cannot be classed as xenophobia.

Also with a traditional case of racism or homophobia, you can't just assume that the reason for hatred/fear is the fact that those things are foreign to them. If someone, for isntance hates black guys because they was once bullied by a black kid at school- then the reason for the hatred is not a fear of something foreign or strange.
Also, some people (as shallow as it may be) might hate another race or sexuality simply because their friends have those views.

**** YOU, I'M SHE, NOT HE.
Sorry, mods, i'm VERY-VERY tired of this.
But can't change my nickname to "Lady Eklipse" to prevent this torture...

People, just leave this game alone.

Shiru is right. The author is just young.

For me young people the very important thing is self-identification. You just need to belong to some group and to show how much you dislike the other groups.

Please remember your teenage years. How tolerant where you about people who listen to different kind of music than you, who support another football team, or who own a different microcomputer? ;)

I think many of you would find a game where you are, let's say, shooting at Commodore owners very funny and nothing wrong at all. Are the gays really different?

But Commode owners chose their debauched lifestyle :D

Even being one of Teh Gayz, I don't think the game should be censored. It's unpleasant, certainly, but it's difficult to take seriously when there's rampant bumsex on the title screen.

Now that I think of it, when I were younger, I made a game in which you could execute my least-favourite teachers in all sorts of 'hilarious' ways. Of course I never really resented them that much - it was just a childish revenge fantasy. I'd probably get locked up for it now, though :-P

Just naturally assumed you were male based on the severe shortage of female spectrum enthusiasts.

    I GET IT!
This game is not just game! This game is the representation of Alco's mind! Alco is the author of the game.
First, look at the animation in the beginning. It it the representation of his actual desires: he wants to be pawned by another guy.
Second, look at the background: the protagonist comes armed to a gay-bar. No one called him there. Therefore he himself was EAGER to go to a gay bar --> and that is also the desire of the author.
Third. look how similar are the sprites of both the protagonist and NPCs: THEY REPRESENT THE SAME PERSON! That means: the game is about Alco struggling against his homosexual fantasies. He dreams about sex with men, but he decided to kill a gay in himself. His mind is full of anger with his homosexual Ego, look how cruel he is with it! But no - that Ego chases him again and again, and when he thinks that he had overcome his homosexuality - the Level 2 cames. His desire becomes stronger. His sexual arousal is so strong that he feels like every man he sees in the street shoots him with a tranquiliser. He sees gays everywhere but the problem is in himself: HE is the protagonist with a machine-gun, and HE is all the gays he wants to shoot. HE WANTS TO SHOOT HIMSELF FOR BEING GAY!

Alco and ALKO are nicknames of two different persons, the first has nothing to do with this game.

I think that homophobists should be banned from life and these games - banned from archive.

I hope I misunderstand you here, but homophobists that should be "banned from life" - that is killed?

If the tolerant reaction to intolerance is execution then we have a long way still to go.

Is a homophobist somebody who studies homophobes for a living?

    *gets coat :D

In kinda unrelated news, in the PC game "Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory", there are a lot of different voice chat commands you can use, one of them says "Great shot!". And I remember a few people changing not the voice but the accompanying text output to "Gay shot!". It all makes sense now, they were advertising this Speccy game.

Shame it is utter trouser fudge and not fun at all, but at least there are plenty of even worse games in the archive.

I think that homophobists should be banned from life and these games - banned from archive. There is no reason to multiply hatred.

    you sure about that?

then all SHOOT-EM-UP games'd be gone forever... except Exolon where you shoot bubbles, ballOons and rockets instead living persons, creatures or entitites.

there'd be no Commando, Wolfenstein, Green Beret...

even no OPERATION WOLF - which under the mild-sounding medicinal title which suggest kind and loving care of animals hides cruel face of the homophobic authors: it's not about the doctor making surgical operation of the wounded wolf.... it's just a plain mass-kill of real pixelated PEOPLE!

    yeah... you're right.
these games really should be banned, because they show and teach us to kill people... don't they!

I almost murdered three of my close friends after playing this wanna-be-game... woa!
    :D

I'm amazed people are still replying to this thread, really!

With this amount of feedback, it must get number 1 in the "most influential games of the decade", seeing no other title received this amount of discussion.

I think that Gay Shot should be permanently recorded as "Best Speccy Game of 2010", based on the discussion level. It would be nice for this landmark game to get the recognition it deserves.

I may start a poll on this.

    I have to disagree:

    1.- Ol? Toro.
    2.- La Abad?a del Crimen.

I was going to write that Gay Shot still have a long way to go, but better if it doesn't :)

    P.S: I quoted the boss, I'm scared :(

I think you'll find that is a hacked version and thus will not be eligible for inclusion in the ZX App Store. ;)

It's a shame. This so looong thread about whether an homophobic game should be included in the archive or not and a post about my optimized DRAW routine completely ignored

Ok, it seems the community has other interest and priorities. This so loong thread has become boring to me, as the discussion is endless & useless. Also reading about participants on other threads says a lot about them. My experience with some "freedom of speech" defenders in other online communities is that they abruptly change their mind once they're offended or criticized and end up censoring in a dictatorial why (BTW I'm thinking in putting this idea under test... ;))

Most serious communities (Facebook, Google, etc...) won't allow such games to be publicized, btw, to avoid that. I suppose this what the original/main topic (don't know, I got lost :-o) Other than that, the game is just simple and don't understand why it got so much attention. And no, I don't think this is the "most influential" game of the year: for a game to be influential it has to be played (who has do it more than 5 minutes?), it have to be commented in others places or even in other threads, it should have to innovate or have a new hack, technique or whatever.

From the point of view of a gamer, developer, etc... I don't think this is an influential game, but an in-fluenza one  (once that only brings discussions to the community). I understand the previous Dunn's post was ironic, but has subtle message ;)
