I think i remember seeing some sort of connnection at the top of the Joypad, 30 pins at least, that's probably the same thing you are talking about. I'm interested in getting one now.

    Hey, my 1000th post! :)

There are some beauties in this collection.

Sorry, this thread has gone rather Off Topic... :)

The megadrive was good because you could just clip off the rounded edges in the cart slot and then the NTSC carts would work.
  • edited October 2004
That's true for most of the ASIAN carts, yes.

But these days it's better to get a multi-region Asian Megadrive, it even has a PAL / NTSC switch on the back to run all Genesis carts.

you bought a Polystation III - which is a famicom clone that can play Famicom carts. I like the sound of it, maybe I'll get one too!

The Famicom clones are good, especially if you have one with a cart slot, rather than all built in games. A 60 to 72 pin converter makes it a region free NES compatible

I'll quote you again because I'm only now understanding that. Where could you get a 60-72 pin converter from?

One more thing, what about USA NES games? They are 72-pin, would they work with a converter too?

If anyone needs any 60-72 pin converters to run NES games on your Famicom clones, then I've got loads :)

  • edited October 2004
USA NES games have the same pin configuration as UK NES games.

The reason why they don't work on a UK NES, is all to do with the Lockout chip that Nintendo have so helpfully put in the console.

This little beasty not only locks out games from everywhere but the UK, Italy and Australia/New Zealand on your UK PAL NES, but is also responsible for that horrible blinky screen that so often occurs. (They are easy to disable though)

Famicom clones don't have a lockout chip, so all games will run - including NES games from UK, USA,- regardless of where they originate - with a 60/72 pin converter.

(PLEASE NOTE though, they don't work the other way around! They don't allow you to play Famicom carts on the NES - as they don't fit in the slot! )

For those interested, I've got about 9 of them - all brand spanking new.
    ?9.00 each (post included)

I've also got a massive amount of Megadrive Japanese converters, SNES converters, and Sega Saturn Satellite 4-in-1 cards (memory, universal converter etc.)

I'm not allowed to sell 'em on eBay for some silly reason :(

Excellent, thanks for the info. I see Mr Spector was interested first, but I'd like to say that if there are any going after, I'd love to have one. Just let me know when to send the nine quid :)

Well I'm going to try and win one of those Famiclones on Ebay, which shouldn't be to difficult since loads are on sale the last time I checked. Once I get one, I'd definitely want one of your converters, chaos.

Yeah, they pulled my NTSC to PAL tv-signal converters! They have absolutely nothing to do with regional lockouts at all, and don't allow imported carts to be played!

Anyway, how much do you want for the Saturn all in once converter? I defintely want one!

But they allow pirate consoles ?
    They're quite clearly mad !

Right, my famiclone from eBay, as mentioned earlier in the thread, arrived today.

I got a great big selection of Famicom carts, and tried them all, and they all worked :)
  • edited October 2004
What about the 64-in-one game cartridge that came with it? Any big titles on that?

It's pretty poor. They've mangled Konami Hyper Sports, and done each event as a sperate game. Haven't had a chance to check every game yet.

Okay, the multi-cart isn't great at all. But, my system was only a fiver plus reasonable postage. Other home shopping channels offer better compilations.

I kinda like the cart, but it's no problem for me, as I have hundreds of compatible games anyway. My cart features many unoffical hacks. Things like Poke Mareo - pokemon in Super Mario World. There is a Wonderboy hack too, etc etc

LOL someplace I have an a game where Sonic the Hedgehog has to resuce Mario.

Overall though, I am happy with it, as I basically wanted a cloned console. It's quite delicate as such systems often are, but the flip top mock ps1 look, gives easy access to the cart slot. The controllers aren't to tough, the light gun is quite nice.

As often happens with such things, none of the leads are really long enough, so if you don't have a suitable tv setup, get some longer AV leads.

The seller included an av/scart adaptor too which was nice.

I am very happy with my purchase, and may buy a spare one. If you were to buy this as a purely stand alone system, and planned to get no more games, then you may be disappointed.

As indeed I am with mine... It's not the one I remembered owning 5-6 years ago.

It's the same as yours, THX. There are only 20 unique games, not 64.

I've been more disappointed, but not much.
  • edited October 2004
    Well...

I can supply you some decent games for it, if you like............. http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=retro-technology&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50 :)

Or I could swap it for something else, cos I am bound to break the controllers and need spares.
  • edited October 2004
I'd certainly consider swapping it. Either that or it's just gonna sit here collecting dust.
  • edited October 2004
If you like, I can trade you my personal "84 in 1" cart from my other clone. It has Galaga, Galxaians, 1942, Balloon Fight, Tack and Field, Wonderboy and quite a few other games that are okayish, of course some are still a bit rubbish, it's certianly much better than the cart that was bundled with this machine.

Thanks for the cart THX. I only got a chance to try it out today. The games on it are much better than the ones that came with my console. And a lot of them are the ones I had on the system I had a few years ago, which I mentioned a few posts back on this thread.

    Cheers again :)
