For me, life is all about reminiscing. That's the point of it. We live so that we may look back.

So rather than looking forward to dinner I should reminisce about breakfast...hmm that bacon does keep repeating on me.

It's an old retail trick, people mostly just buy the same sort of things, so shops move stuff around so that when, out of habit, you go to the same section of the shop, to buy whatever you intended to buy, you see something new, and are tempted to buy that too.

Supermarkets do it a lot, and it's really annoying, as if they didn't then I could do my shopping on auto-pilot, whilst day-dreaming.

Where I work, we have people come in everyday and complaine that we've "moved everything again". But, apart from the seasonal stuff (Christmas, garden etc), not a single thing has moved since Jan/Feb last year as we had a major refit then and nothing has moved since.

I think we think the 80s was so great because it is when we were raised...not so much that it was actually great (comparatively), pretty much every generation has said the same about when they were raised..50s, 60, 70s...

Someone mentioned that they were happy to be a kid in the 80s rather than now...screw that! Back then I'd love to have had access to the internet and all the retro/emu stuff, dodgy files/downloads, online gaming....and erm...those sites dedicated to the study of nakedness etc.
Naah, the 80's were great. I pity young people today, the amount of shit they have to listen to and watch.

Mind you, mobile phones would have been handy back then...
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

If dinner is the only thing you've got to look forward to, then it certainly sounds as though you should be living back in the past. Try and ignore the burpy-bits though. :)

You could have had one, if you were loaded and didn't mind carrying a phone the same size as a suitcase :D

Aye, not exactly mobile and probably cost more per month than I earned in 3 months at the time.

    Hehe, yes my dad too.

Now I say the same thing to my son about bands like My Chemical Romance.

We all turn into our parents eventually...

You're right though My Chemical Romance are shit, and I was only about 24 or 25 when they first popped up so I wasn't totally past it back then so they must really be shit.

.....Well they are a bunch of bloody emo's afterall :D

I dont know if its just me or i'm getting old or what. Yeah i have a hatred of boy bands, can understand girls going to concerts and that but blokes ?

The other day i went to a pub quiz with some neighbours, know the bloke a bit, hes a good lad.

But then during pub quiz it was the music round, guess the year. It was the 90's round and then on came a Boyzone song 'love me for a reason', he suddenly started really singing to this, clicking his fingers, i thought 'yeah hes taking the mick'.

But he wasnt, i said to him 'what are you doing ?' and he stared at me like i was the mental one. 'Its a great song, love this one....' he said and waffled on about theyre a good band.

Hes in his late 30's and i thought was alright, but he seems to like Boyzone? Worlds gone mad

Theres something deeply wrong with men who listen to Boyzone.
There's a guy at our work who's 42 and watched Glee (and liked it!) he got slagged endlessly when he said he watched it. The wierd thing is that he's also an AC/DC fan!

I'm so glad it's not just me that reflects on the "old days"!

I'm kicking the hell out of 40 now and my girlfriend (some 13 years younger) cannot understand why I reminisce so much. But you guys have nailed it on the head. Times were indeed simpler than they are now.

I do kind of pity teenagers today though with their xboxs and ps3s. Don't get me wrong, I also have these consoles, but teenagers ( i hate to use the word 'youngsters') seem to be obsessed with shiny graphics and are determined that that's what makes or breaks a game. Back when we all played our speccy games, gameplay was key. The writers had very little RAM to work with and yet somehow created classic gameplay that we all remember to this day.

I too would like a ticket for the time machine please. You can drop me off at 1989 please.

I agree with most of the things said here,i seem to reminisce almost every day but never seem to tire of it,thinking back of times at school and when life was far less complicted.
I hated school but compared to adult life its a walk in the park!,great times in other ways though i seem to always think about the Atari2600 and Speccy my first machines and when my heart lies, the Speccy Vs C64 Vs Cpc slander in the playground and how we all used to get together after school and walk to all the chippies, taxi ranks and other places just to play the arcade games on the premises, the only machine you get in them now is a coco-cola machine...sigh.
It might be the same for you guys but occasionally i do meet up with old friends and i can bet you we will talk about school and the speccy ;-)

When I look back at pictures of the 80's I think how primitive the fashion sense was. I mean can you honestly say any of these women look good in what they're wearing, even the one showing a bit of thigh.

And what was it about 80's female joggers that would bounce while they jogged, even when stopping to cross the road.

it's more a case of what we didn't have we didn't miss.. although i can relate as a kid I used to go Ireland 3-4 weeks .. with NO spectrum !!! WTF hehe

school is an odd one, I wasn't the cool one.. but I wasn't the one that was metal or got 7 bells kicked out of. I do meet the odd person now, it's funny.. it's a bit like why avoid facebook.. why the heck would I wanna talk to / get back into contact with someone who acted like a total **** back in the day

I was thinking recently of how many gadgets we have now that we didn't have when i gew up in the 80's such as mobiles (which were the size of a telephone exchange back then), mp3s, laptops and no internet. Also there was no high definition and people still used records and tapes for music. Oh and the top computer was something called a spectrum!
But back then things seemed simpler and the streets were a bit safer, i remember spending the summer evenings out and about with my mates and my paents didn't mind. Nowadays parents are terrified to let their kids out of their sight.
