Yup, cheers for the update - been checking the update tab on my iPhone all day like a complete loon! Not long to go hopefully!

Seems like apple Is on a bit of a go slow at the moment. I shall remain hopeful that the update will still go out later.

I think some people who haven't got the current app and are new to it may already be able to see the new version on their device?

I don't have the iPhone app (I have the iPad / HD version), but iTunes is still showing version 1.4 with the 14th January weekly report.

It's ok though, I know it'll be there soon enough. :) I'm just keen to find out what games will be on offer - I won't be able to play them until the HD version is updated.

Yep I deinstalled it then reinstalled and now it says volume 1-10

    Cool!

Woo! Spill the beans then - what games are there?! :)

    Just bought all of them.

Great to see the Julian gallop games specially the rebelstar ones but also the homebrew games by Bob Smith. Plus skooldaze!

Hopefully Jonathan Cauldwells games will be on it soon or Mojon twin games, eg Uwol.

Still would love Commando and Bombjack

    But nice work

Still not showing for me on iTunes.

Skooldaze is fantastic, just hope the controls translate well to the touch screen.

So what are the highlights from each pack?

Alternative Software Collection vol 1 ...

    Dead or Alive
    Gun Boat
    Hideous
    Eliminator
    Capitan Sevilla
    Skool Daze (yay!)

    Julian Gollop Collection ...

    Laser Squad
    Chaos
    Lords of Chaos
    Rebelstar
    Rebelstar 2
    Hopping Mad

    Vortex Collection Volume 2 ...

    Cyclone
    Alien Highway
    Revolution
    Android 2
    Thanatos
    Overlander

    Chronosoft Bob Smith Collection ...

    SPLATTR
    Stranded 2.5
    W*H*B
    Factoy Daze
    Farmer Jack Harvest Havoc!
    Farmer Jack Treasure Trove
Of course some games will natrually work a lot better namely the turn based games (ahem) or other slow based puzzle type games.

I suspected we might be getting one of either Rebelstar 1 & 2, Chaos or Laser Squad after reading that comment ... but we got not just one of them, we got ALL OF THEM!!! It doesn't stop there though ... we also get Skool Daze, W*H*B, SPLATTR, Stranded, Cyclone, Factory Daze ...

This is awesome! (Needless to say, I bought them all).

PS - Deleting the app and re-downloading it installs the updated app - still nothing showing on the app update screen.

    Thanks Refrenz. :)

Skooldaze is the stand out game for me, but the Bob Smith collection is welcome, and there are a few others that are of interest.

If I'm being totally honest I was hoping for at least 2 or 3 personal favourites, so I'm a bit disappointed, but I'll be buying all the packs on iPad and look forward to seeing what comes next.

    @ psj3809

    Thanks for the app review.

About Commando and Bj there are still licencing issues surrounding those that would need to be cleared which is obviously why they aren't in yet.

Glad you guys like the other stuff tho.

Prior to this update i'd not played any Crono stuff before but i must say that it's very good. Splattr is awesome and defo my fave game although WHB is great too.

Lookout for more soon and in the meantime enjoy them damn Gollop games with their extensive instructions :p

Yeah sorry i forgot about the licensed games after reading the blurb in the Emulator. Totally get your point about Commando/Bomb Jack etc.

Happy with the game packs, some ones i'm not that keen on but the good thing with retro gaming is to try these new ones as you can often be surprised.

Love the Rebelstar games and they work well with those controls so a big well done.

I hope theyre a success but i'm loving seeing homebrew games on there from Bob Smith. Hopefully we'll have a Jonathan Cauldwell collection soon.

Some other homebrew games which are great (Not just saying it but they'll work very well on an emulator) are...

    UWOL
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0024081

    Gloop Troops
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0024831

    Heart Stealer
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0024831

Great looking platform games which would work very well.

So will there be new game packs once a month ? (The next set seem to be pencilled in for late Feb ?)

Anyway its all great stuff, got them all and i'm currently enjoying going through them.

Just thought of another Gremlin Graphics game so hopefully you 'should' be able to get hold of it....

    Bounder
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0000657

Again this should work well on the device

Sorry if this one has already been mentioned (Couldnt find it in here or the emulators section)

What do people think of the ZX Spectrum Elite collection on iphone/ipad/ipod touch?

I'm really impressed with it, some great classic games starting to appear on it, most notibly Manic Miner, Skool Daze and Auf Wiedersehn Monty lately.

    Hi

Just moved your post to this thread as we've been discussing it here.

As you might tell from the earlier pages i'm loving all these Speccy games ! Couple of 'duffers' which i'm not personally keen on (Eg Battleships, some of the Alternative ones) but overall its been excellent.

The latest games specially the Cronosoft games and Julian Gollop collection is excellent. Love the way it saves your progress automatically, nice to have a quick game of rebelstar and come back to it later
  • edited January 2011
For me the only collection that has been rather 'meh' is the Alternative software one.

It's a pity Skool Daze was lumped in with all of the other Alternative titles. I would have loved a Microsphere collection that included the following titles ...

    Wheelie
    Skool Daze
    Back to Skool
    Contact Sam Cruise

... and had the Alternative software titles in a seperate collection. I know Alternative re-released Skool Daze, but they didn't write or originally publish it, and I suspect most link Skool Daze to Microsphere, not Alternative software.

Just my tuppence worth - I still think the ZXEC is awesome even with a few dodgy titles. Now, back to Rebelstar ...

Ah brilliant, I didn't see this thread before I posted.

Really glad to see you guys love the app as much as I do, for me it is by far the best app on my iPhone. The presentation and work which has gone into this project is fantastic. Keep up the good work Matt and co.

Glad to see it isn't just me who checks the app store several times a day when a new update is due!!

How is the app doing? I dont have a problem with the price increase as it is still superb value for money. Can't wait until volumes 11-14!!

I would like to see Technician Ted, Jet Set Willy, Robin of the Wood, Wriggler, Tapper and Booty.

Would like to see Elites own 'Rollercoaster'

Great call, although I would swap out Technician Ted (too hard with a joystick, let alone touch screen!) for Dynamite Dan 2, and swap Tapper for The Great Escape. Oh and I still want Bomb Jack and Paperboy. And a hundred other games. :D

Thanks again for all the comments.

We're already working away hard on the next update which we intend to sub early February.

On the scale of things i'd say that the games in the next update are in contrast even better than the last update so again there will be something for everyone. It really will be a great update.

iPad version should hopefully be live this weekend (we're just waiting for apple to review it still).

How could you not see Rollercoaster lol. Although it is very difficult game to play.

Great to hear, cant wait for the next batch. As i said before its exciting finding out what the games are when theyre released.

Cant believe i missed out Rollercoaster though, ahem !

Another game from Elite which i would love to see (And its not an arcade conversion) is 'Duet'. A decent Gauntlet style clone, would be great to see that on a future pack

The best games list from Your Sinclair (and by the readers) is a good list and doesnt have lots of dodgy voting or that !

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/ystop100.html

Just be good to get any of those games on that list where possible (Eg no 'Battleships' type of games ;)

Just a quick note to say Vol.1-10 is now available on the iPad if you're lucky enough to have one ZX:EC really does play nice on it!

We're making great progress with the next update (iphone version) which we intend to submit to apple on or before the 4th Feb.

For those of you who may or may not know we are also inviting people to register their interest in exclusive Signed Ltd Edition prints of retro game art for ZX Spectrum.

The first edition of art will be a Re-master of the Manic Miner Artwork.

To register interest follow the link here (NOTE: the link will work but is intended for iOS devices which is why it looks bigger on a PC browser)

    http://iphone.elite-systems.co.uk/ltdeditions.html

Finally a big thanks to all the people who voted for our app on the 148apps.com best app ever awards.

We were nominated for the best retro app ever in 2010.

The results have now been gathered and we came in 2nd place which is a magnificent achievement considering the app was only released in October 2010.

First place un-surprisingly went to the C64 app although their user base is currently a lot larger than ours so they could easily grab a higher number of votes.

Anyway we'll get them next year i'm sure!

Thanks for the update and well done for the 2nd place.

Please let us know any hints about the next update, will it be 3 volumes ? Also nearer the time please let us know roughly when it might appear. Was quite fun the other week checking the app store every hour to see if the games were available ! Bit like back in the 80's waiting for a computer shop to open at 9am so you could rush in and get the latest Speccy game !
  • edited January 2011
Next update will be 4 more volumes as usual = 24 more games.

I will keep you all posted nearer the time.

Be much easier for some of us then refreshing the Apple Store 6 times an hour

All volumes purchased so far... bring on volumes 11 - 14! :D

Skooldaze plays well, but I didn't even manage to get all the shields before I got expelled! Wasn't being careful enough. Plus I have a cold at the moment. *excuses excuses*

I also had a quick bash on Auf Wiedersehen Monty over the weekend. A very tough game made even harder with touch controls! I may need to adjust the iDaptive controls further... but boy is it difficult.
  • edited February 2011
I prefer the joystick for Auf Monty on the iphone although the ipad version is loads better to play it on with more screen to work with.

As you may or may not have yet seen we're also getting into the habit of releasing some of the better games from ZX:EC as standalone titles too. This is mainly to appeal to the people who don't either know ZX:EC is available or who may just fancy a punt on a retro classic.

Rather than just the standalone game they also feature a cheat version of it too and also include idaptive controls etc...

Manic Miner is already available as a standalone on ipad and iphone and now Auf Monty is too which has the official cheat version where you have to collect the shotgun on the first screen.

Perhaps you may be interested in it.

Little update, we're almost done with 11-14 for the iphone and hope to sub it this Friday. We're also going to probably publish a list of the games this time before it's launched too but more details will follow about all that.

    In the meantime enjoy.

Thanks for the info, but I don't enjoy cheating at games. I tried the joystick on Auf Monty and it was ok, but to be honest it's not so much the controls as the fact that it's just a very hard game. I'm not worried about it though, there are plenty of other games for me to enjoy!
