Hero Worship

By gosh, it is tempting to send a quick message to this chap complimenting him for all the awesome stuff he (and his brother) have done.

p.s. for the record I am joking, I wouldn't bombard this poor chap with random unsolicited crap

p.p.s. unless I'm drunk

write 1 email etc.. and you might be surprised , you'd get a reply perhaps.

some folks who wrote games , music etc are decent ... are glad you liked their work and remember them so many years later.

others , aren't even polite enough to replay to say thanks.. I'm busy etc.

there is a saying "you should never meet your heroes" .. some music people I could name (but won't) , because of an old job were utter nobs.. while others were sound.. thankfully they were the majority.

some people I know.. I know them as a friend BUT their work as a separate thing if that makes sense.

I don't know. I'm friends on Facebook with some members of bands I really like and I've exchanged messages with quite a few of them. Like the rest of us, they are friendly most of the time but have the occasional bad day.

I'm off to send a message to Mr. Gollop right now. :)

I sent him an email to his website address about 3 weeks ago and got no reply :( Never mind. Worth a try.

When the internet was still new, I emailed Jim Steinman and got a reply... he told me all about his new musical that he was writing and creating music for.

The musical failed to take off, but most of bat out of hell III was the sound track.

When i did my platform game designer version of Rebelstar i emailed him just to say is it okay if i use similar graphics to Rebelstar, Julian replied and said it was fine, was quite chuffed with the messages he still gets all these years later.

I'm sure it would be OK to write a "...just a quick message to let you know I'm a big fan of the games you wrote BITD and actually still play them sometimes 'cos they're addictive..." type message, rather than a pointless friend request or something.

I know that the odd programmer has been on this forum, but I'd guess the majority haven't (unless they're deliberately remaining anonymous!). I think it would be great to hear from them if anyone can entice any over here..!

People here will remember when Rick Dickenson came on the forum to discover the value of and enthusiasm for his drawing board. For those who don't know or were not here, this is the one which he designed the ZX Spectrum on. I sent him a PM telling him that his board was too good for Ebay and exchanged a few messages with him. Nice chap.

In the course of researching/preparing a new article for Retro Gamer, I was very happy to receive an e-mail yesterday from an actor who appeared in one of my favourite TV shows of all time... look forward to him answering my questions.

I made many contacts through my old Speccy "celeb" interview site and I'm still in touch with quite a few of them, and some other "famous" spec-chums too.
