This is partially correct, but IMHO the true inspiration is a book "Roadside Picnic" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (Russia).
The movie Stalker has been inspired by the book, it's a great movie but it's not really connected to the book's idea. Andrei Tarkovsky's vision was completely different comparing to the book's plot.
BTW, all these games share the same inspiration with PC first-person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, which merged Chernobyl with Zone from Roadside Picnic, added some mutants and switched to post-USSR thematics :)

Yes, it's true! 'Roadside Picnic' is translated to the Czech language like 'Piknik u Cesty'.
