    Hi All,

It's been a really hectic week with lots of stuff to cram in so far.

The iphone update is all but ready and i'm going to submit that tomorrow now.

In terms of other stuff i can't say a great deal about it for now but we will put a list of the games up prior to the release of the update.

    More to follow soon...

Brilliant article! Thanks for the link

Nice! Shame the news article's a bit of a WTF... "ELITE ARE RELAUNCHING THE ZX SPECTRUM!!!!!! So here's five paragraphs of rambling about retro games on mobile phones. P.S. it's a Spectrum-styled Bluetooth keyboard. Also, the Spectrum is a console and I don't know how percentages work."

I would LOVE a Spectrum style bluetooth keyboard though, always wanted something like that. I run emulated games on my PC and would really like something like this, basically just a rubber keyboard (i know you can get these) but in a Speccy style.

Pity the article doesnt talk a bit more about the great emulated games from Elite ,but this keyboard thing does sound good IF it ever came out

And they called Boulder Dash a "platform game" and mentioned Space Quest ? propos of nothing. (I knew someone would've posted about this article on WoS before I got to css with it! Ha.)

Thread-fork: further discussions about this development should probably be done in this thread as not to derail this one too much...

The controls are far too awful to bother with any of it apart from the Gollop collection and unfortunately the auto-saving seems far too inconsistent to rely on for games of Rebelstar so pretty much this app is gash.

Ive noticed that the autosave only works when you press 'back' - if you quite straight out of the app it often doesnt autosave.

The app is brilliant, my favourite by a country mile on my iphone

I think theyve got far better, with the keys on Chuckie Egg i was crap, didnt like the way you had to press the top left button to go up etc. Changed that to the virtual joystick and works a treat. Manic Miner - i keep to the keys (as theres only a few). The way you can change the key layout (or switch to joystick) for various games is good. Takes a bit of getting used to i admit.

There are some right 'duffers' amongst the games (Specially the Alternative collection eg Dead or Alive) but theres more good games than bad.

I've had no problems with it saving my games, gone back and carried on with a few i had played previously.

Overall i'm happy with it and looking forward to the next few packs. The way the iphone works i think it needs more 'arcadey' style games which are easier to play. Skooldaze was quite ambitious but to be fair you can play it alright.

I'm curious to hear about the save not always working...

Is this with iOS 4.2? I know that has changed the way that apps react to the home button.

I have an iphone 3GS with the latest updates.

The save feature works every time if i press the 'back' button in the top left corner of the display. However if i quit out of the app by pressing the 'home' button on the actual phone, it loses the save and starts from the beginning.

I've got the latest ipod touch, ios 4.2. A few times i've quit by just pressing the main button. Then a few days later if i try another Speccy game it'll popup saying 'want to resume?'. Seems fine on mine, i never really press Back and then close the emulator.

Took a while to get used to the controls but working well now.

Does the Elite App support bluetooth keyboards right now?

    Any news Matthew ?

I presume Jet Set Willy will be part of one of the packs ?
  • edited February 2011
    Hi,

Yes we'll update the app news pages later on as usual so will try to cover things there as best we can.

I'll also see if i can put something together for the rest of the packs for you too.

    Matt

Cheers fella, sounds good. Looking forward to hearing about these. Plus the bluetooth keyboard thing sounds very intriguing.

I actually completed JSW a few years ago (no cheating, just official bug-fix pokes), so look forward to seeing how far I can get on the iPad.

I'd love to be able to record games for upload / playback. Any chance of this being implemented at some point?

Just been thinking about the potential new keyboard/emulator/hardware and wondered if any of the current emulated games offer AY sound or 128k versions?

These all have AY sound. Not sure if they're 128K versions though ...

    Beyond the Ice Palace
    Avenger
    Switchblade
    Auf Wiedersehen Monty
    Skate Crazy
    Overlander
    Thanatos
    Hopping Mad

Plus all the Chronosoft Bob Smith games.
