As above. I think im right in saying champ Manager has received some stick in recent years and the programers of the original champ manager games have another football managment game now. But is champ manager 2010 anygood.

"Back in the day"? "Wine gums"? Have you suddenly turned into PSJ? ;)
I have to admit I haven't played it, but just out of interest is there any reason you wouldn't want to go for Football Manager 2010..? I switched over from CM to FM a few years ago and reckon they're the best by miles..
Managed to get Annan Athletic promoted to Division 1 in Scotland but started struggling so haven't played it for a bit..

I got it from the charity shop for 99p thinking it was the good one but i couldnt quite remember the name of the other one. Football manager so thats the good one. Cheer for that!
You'll be wanting FM2011, that's the latest iteration. You should be able to obtain through steam (not me!).
IIRC, it was in 2005 that the split occured. Basically there were 2 parties involved...One kept the name "Championship Manager" and the other kept the game engine and had to rename to "Football Manager".
Football Manager is the far superior product. The only connection to the old CM classics that the current Champ Manager retains is the name only.
Do yourself a favour and give CM a wide berth in favour of FM.
Cheers steam. I dont realy like football or football management games but i saw it in the charidy shop for 99p and thought oh wow Champ manager that a realy great game then when i got home i recalled that something had happend with the franchise. Oh well.
I still play Cham Manager 2006 but never last more that 2 seasons. My team end up getting relagated and i end up being fired!
Personally I've always picked a small club with really low expectations (e.g. board/supporter expecations are 'fight against relegation'), usually in one of the lowest divisions of whatever country you're in.
Usually I find it takes a season or two to consolidate & get to know the team, and then slowly build a better team & push on from there.
Whenever I've managed a big club I've usually been sacked within a few months!
That's what i did. I was the manager of Ayr Utd but was sacked despite a good league run (perhaps because we were dumped out of all cups).
I went to Airdrie Utd and was sacked after a few months!
Think i'll stick to Football Manager 1982.......

Aaah...a fellow LLM'er! Can't beat it. You're right about it taking a season or so to get settled, you need patience and a plan at the lower levels. Unless you can stumble on a couple of cheapo signings or make a few decent loans.
I've had some epic games managing Exeter (CM'93) eventually won 3 European cups with them. Lasted 12 seasons with them until my bloody Amiga disks broke.
Dordrecht (FM2006) runners up to a mighty Juventus in the CL with them, won the Dutch Eredivisie though. Was in my 13th season managing them when I decided to update to FM2008. Guus Hiddink and me ended up best mates...liked to think we had a glass of digital vino after our encounters...

I had Championship Manager Italia on the Amiga, I took 3rd div( I think ??) side to the Italian title and into Europe.
Then got sacked.
