Does anyone play this game? The instructions say Determine your rank and set your level of difficulty and joy stick preference. But when I load the game it skips the the screen and goes straight to the main display.
It starts the game after you press ENTER, correct? That's the key to leave the options menu, which it is in at that point, but either ink & paper in the menu box are both set to black, or else the text hasn't been displayed at all (probably the latter, as neither does it get displayed after quitting the game and returning to the menu). Use the TAP rather than the TZX and you'll get the correct display.
Note that SHIFT+SPACE wibbles the screen a bit and then abandons the game and gives you the options M=Menu or E=Exit; the options text still doesn't get displayed in the TZX version, although it will take the relevant actions if the correct keys are pressed.

Thank you Bunny this as helped a lot  Im loading the game off the tape that the game is on by Rack it. When it loads it just doesnt start with the menu screen straight away. Iv tried the shift+space keys and it restarts the game but still no Menu. I think I will put the TZX version on the B side of the tape and load from there.
There's a bug in the TZX loader for the original release. Both loaders POKE the S-channel output routine address with 52h, which contains a RET instruction; ie. they disable the screen output. In the TAP loader (which has "Version 1.1" at the top) this is later restored to its original value, but in the TZX it doesn't restore the value so the S-channel output remains disabled and the menu doesn't display.
I had this one back in the day for my +3... it came with a disk with PH Pegasus, but one of the games didn't work... not sure wich one, I'll have a go at both to find out!
