  In 2000, one of my first ISP's were giving away a domain name for a year. I picked www.zeropolis.co.uk and it was all dealt with via Network Solutions (IIRC) and after a year, I got a letter askign if I wanted to renew for ?15. I didn't and it eventually ended up with a finance company.
