NZ earthquake! NZ-WoSsers ok?

Just heard about the terrible earthquake that hit New Zealand.

I hope that any NZ-WoSsers are ok, my thoughts are with you guys.

I think we have at least 2 people in NZ, Kiwi and ... err ... sorry, the other name escaped the grasp of the tip of my tongue.

    I was thinking of starting a thread like this earlier, thinking of enquiring about jp and Kiwi's wellbeing, but it's Christchurch that was devastated and as AFAIK jp lives in Auckland, and I don't think Kiwi is from Christchurch (obviously that doesn't make the situation any less horrible, but you know what I mean)?

    But either way are both of these 2 and there loved one's/friend etc, or any other NZ Wossers OK, give us a shout, let us know the good/bad news?? :???:

    We thought my youngest sister-in-law got caught up in it, she's on holiday down under but we got an e-mail from her a few hours ago telling us she's on the South Island and fine..

    Hope our NZ WOS members are alright and everyone else.

    Many thanks for the kind words - if you've not see any TV footage or photos the Christchurch central business district looks like a war zone - this one is really serious.

    The last major quake was back in September last year and was stronger than yesterdays - yet there were only minor injuries that time!?

    IIRC Kiwi lives in Australia, acsi is in Wellington and stefrobb is way up north of the north island.

    As for the immediate family they all live around Hamilton so were pretty well away from it. I'm normally in Hamilton but was in Auckland on Monday night [hence Tuesday as well] for a QOTSA gig.

    I'm from Auckland, everyone here is pretty gutted. My relatives in the South Island are okay, my friends are okay. So it hasn't affected me personally, too much.

    The CTV building has been completely destroyed and they have given up hopes for anyone to have survived :cry:. Their website is still up like nothing has happened. It's pretty horrible.

    Yeah, hope any Wossers and their families are alright.....must be terrible for folks down there right now...

    Didn't someone post a pic of their work building on here after the last quake in September, showing the destruction then...who was that?

    Not quite, on the Kapiti Coast so south of you but just north of Wellie.

    The rolling TV coverage has been good for keeping up, but it was pretty obvious from the pictures early on that we'd be looking at quite a number of deaths this time?reckon it'll climb to about 200 or more before the end.

    I wonder what it'll do for Chch in the long run? I mean who'd move there now?

    I'm off to check on my disaster kit...
