Hop'N'Chop???

edited May 2011 in Games
Hello.

Non-intuitive games are a wide phenomenon lately,
which is especially annoying that they look beautiful.

I was wondering, what is a point of ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games/h/HopNChop(Cronosoft2).tzx.zip game where I can't jump to higher platforms as well as I can't use any "stairs" visible on the screen.

Anybody can suggest anything resonable in the subject-matter?

Thanks a lot!

Ah. Even better. So have nice time playing (really good thing, I must admit) and if only you know how to get higher on the map, then let me know here, please.
    Thanks.

To climb "stairs" you need simply to press UP and LEFT/RIGHT simultaneously

No - the guy only jumps, does not climb. He falls just before reaching the upper platform.

And I suspect the "up" is "A" key.

    _______EDIT________
...what was a wrong assumption. UP is Q.
    And DOWN key = jump.
    All works now.

Yep, it's the same if you select joystick (btw only the "left" sinclair stick appears to be working)
Very awkward choice of controls, i'd rather have pressing down when i DON'T want to climb, and jumping with the up key

    Yeah, here's the details...

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/showwrap.cgi?permit=houses/ShawBrothers.pmt

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you can see that Altern8 has ceased trading and Simon from Cronosoft has allowed the stuff he's selling to be put on WOS too, so all the Shaw Bros. stuff is available now!

I was playing this at the weekend, struggled a bit at first but then started to find it quite addictive.

Took me a few goes to get off the first level - I couldn't be bothered looking properly so had to work out the keys myself. :p I found the time limit tough at first but it gets easier with a bit of practice and strategy.

    Aaarrrrrrrgh.

Doesn't work on ZX Evolution. It press by itself all the time two keys: fire and jump.
    Grrrrrrr.
    A pity.

I've been playing this a bit now, I loves it I does.

Are you still having troubles Mr. BEEP? If you're using keyboard A is jump, but Q will let you climb the stairs. Also you have to chop both sides of the trees to get the logs, but you have to sharpen your axe at the grinder every time you chop a side of a tree. Then when you chop a tree and get a log you take it to the log cabin at the start of the level.

If you still can't play it after that you're beyond help! ;)

    :p

    Hi there.

The game seems to be _splendid_ and looks like Rainbow Island or something like that. Really.

But when I load it into Eva, it "press by itself" keys: fire and left (if I recall). I was veeeery disappointed.
They should have made a regular menu - "define keys" or "cursors" - that would be cool. Maybe in this way I could avoid the error with keyboard reading.

However I realize it's mentioned/dedicated for Sinclair/Amstrad. :) But I still regret it doesn't work on ZX Evolution.

    Ah well. ;)

    Thanks anyway,

Meanwhile my friend XXL made a version for ZX Evolution:
    http://mister_beep.republika.pl/HopChopT.tap
It appeared that they made some keyboard control wrong. Now It's OK.

PS: Well, I don't hide that I made 'lives cheat' to it, additionally, heh.

The key controls make sense once you get used to the game - quality it is though :-)

    Regards,

    Shaun.

Oh no, I got it finally and I played the game a lot.
This time I ment some coding thingies that didn't allow this game to work on Spectrum Evolution.
Once the crack is ready - I can play it also on the Eva, not only on British machines.
