Keyboard cleaning

edited February 2011 in Chit chat
Hello all

OK,the title says it all.But how do i get the built up sweat(from my fingertips!),from keys and the keyboard surface?.I wipe it off the affected area every night with a clean cloth, but the area i have wiped still feels slippery when compared to other area's of the keyboard. Thanks for looking.

    lick it

I wouldn't recommend licking it, a keyboard had more germs than I toilet seat, so I've heard. :-)

It could be that the texture on the surface has been rubbed off due to too many finger presses. I remedied this once by sanding each key individually.

Then licking harder might solve that?

Remove all the keys with a thin knife. Hover the areas that's normally under the keys and where the crumbs live.

Then wash the keys in warm soapy water. Dry with a hair drier and replace.

Mind you if you have so much built up sweat on your fingers that you need to clean your keyboard every night, I might say your better of washing your hands before using your computer.

Why are your hands go greasy? Are you a mechanic, a cook or a chip shop owner?

Keep a welsh rag (a beer towl) at your desk wipe your hands on before typing.

There was an article in PC Format couple years ago about wrapping the keyboard in a towel then putting it in the dish washer and then leave it in the airing cupboard overnight. Not sure Id try that myself.

I just unplug the keyboard and use babywipes on it.
