Which actor/s have appeared in the most films.?

edited March 2011 in Chit chat
I watched Inception on dvd last night and it was just as good as when i saw it at the flicks as well as Leonardo DiCaprio there were a few other actors such as Michael Caine and the late Pete Postlethwaite who made an appearance.
On seeing Mr Caine i realised i had seen quite a bit of him recently and i asked myself the question `i wonder which actor has appeared in the most movies to date?`, it may well be some veteran actor about Michael Cains age or older i guess so what do you reckon?

I'd guess Christopher Lee, he's been acting since the 40's and must have appeared in something like 200+ films, and he's still acting today.

Michael Caine himself stated a while back that he can be choosey what films he picks and does far less as he has money in the bank.. he'll even appear in lower budget films if they have a good script.

that bloke who struck the gong in the Rank films appeared in a fair few..hehe

I'm sure big actors have appeared in films that were turkeys but had massive budgets.

It probably depends a bit on your definitions of 'film' and 'actor', otherwise it'll either be one of those godawful hacks who appear in just about every b-movie ever cobbled together or some random porn star.

We have the TCM (Turner Classic Movies) channel at home and my wife said one day about Paul Newman: "he's in most films, isn't he?".

Yes. Paul Newman is in most films.

I'm sure I read years ago that Christopher Lee had appeared credited, in more films than any other actor. Aparently, if someone isn't credited in a film, then that's not counted as a film appearance by whoever makes up the rules.

I think that was about fifteen or more years ago when I read that though, so maybe someone else has overtaken Christopher Lee by now.

Myself though, I'd say Whoopee Goldberg. Because if you ask me, if she's been in one film, then that's 10,000,000 more than she should have been in.

That certainly wasn't the case for Michael Caine during the 70's an 80's as he appeared in some really terribible films such as Jaws 3 (or was it 4?), The Swarm and Blue Ice.

    Pretty sure it's Christopher Lee.

Although in the early 90's Tommy Lee Jones (Fugitive thru Batman Forever) tried to take the accolade.

Did Christopher Lee get the mention in Return of the King in the end? IIRC he was MAJORLY pissed off that he was cut out of the theatrical release, even though he eventually appeared in the DVD Extended edition.
