eBay feedback

edited March 2011 in Chit chat
One for all you eBay detectives out there!

Bought a PSU through eBay. Pretty cheap really. Won it 09/03 and paid the same day thru Paypal.

Got a message on 14/03 asking if I had received it yet. Replied and said not yet, maybe it's delayed, was happy to give it a week just in case. He said maybe it's his dodgy Post Office.

Sent a message 21/03 saying it still hadn't arrived, maybe the postie hadn't put a card through the door, was happy to wait a few more days in case he got it returned.

Seller replied 24/03 saying he'd managed to track it, and that I should get it the next day (today). Sent another one saying that it had cost him more postage than he originally charged but it wasn't a problem, asked for positive feedback.

- was the seller telling porkies about sending it the first time just to buy time and avoid bad feedback?
- is there a tracked service that takes 2 weeks?
- if it's being shipped by a courier why mention the Post Office the first time?

Finally, assuming I do get it today (or someone tries to deliver it), what eBay feedback should I leave?

I had a long delay/issue much the same as you described here for my Amiga I won. Eventually it turned up, but only after really chasing it up. In the end I gave positive feedback because it did get delivered and worked just fine, but did make a note on the feedback "After some considerable delay...".

    Neg 'em! ;)

Well he seemed to send it despite being more postage than he initially thought.

You never know it 'might' be a genuine case. You do have the odd postal problem (Look at the 'snow' causing havoc with RG subscriptions and other stuff).

You got the item, yeah a bit late but at least you got it. I only reserve negative for complete nightmare scenarios where you lose your money

This thread is like 'good cop, bad cop'.. :p

I'll see if they tried to deliver it today.

I was thinking of not leaving any feedback at all but then the seller will probably start badgering me.

I suppose I could leave generally positive feedback if it arrives and works, but mark them down on the 'breakdown' bit.

I don't really care if things take a while and am happy to leave positive feedback even if it takes a couple of weeks, but if they've lied about posting it to start with I'm not sure I should give them good feedback.. Maybe I'll just leave it 3 weeks and then send a message saying 'have you received your feedback yet? I sent it last week..' :-P

i had similar situations, so what id do is just mention the good things, like packaging etc, and not mention the delivery.

he might have just been a lazy arse, rather than trying to rip you off.

but yeah you should wait a few weeks to leave him the feedback, make him sweat a little, then leave something nice. :p

My friend is selling speccy stuff on ebay (fog has just bought some books off her)

She is selling loads of mags too....

One buyer messaged her saying there were names written on some covers - so she told him to post them back & get a refund.

Instead, he opened a case with ebay saying the item wasn't as described - despite them being described as 2nd hand, and there were photos... he has also said he won't return them.

He's also gone to paypal and had the payment taken off her.

What do buyers expect when buying 25yr old mags?

I brought some Amstrad magazines from someone on eBay and some had names on them, not mentioned in the auction but I had no issue with it.

That bloke is just an idiot trying to get something for nothing..

I think the money will be "held" by paypal. If your friend escalates the dispute the buyer will have to return the item (and provide tracking info) otherwise PP will release the funds and no refund will be given. I think!

    mouth!

(remind me not to tell you anything important ;) ) .. didn't she read my "none disclosure clause" ? = items for free

ebay / paypal is a tricky thing.. and well i deal with it case by case.. the majority of people are fine.
I've had fake bidders, none payers and well just rude people and the odd WOSer (but I'm discreet :) unless they make it public knowledge)

p.s buy more games ffs ;)

To make it worse, this buyer paid for several items, and only complained about 2... paypal have frozen ?14

So she can either refund ?1.10 and let him keep them, or risk paypal keeping ?14!

So, as many of us here buy/sell on ebay, take my advice & don't use bunniesyoung

a relative has 100% record and their funds are frozen, they have just under 50 good feedback.. in their case it feels like paypal just wanna get a nice bit of interest.. they are a new user but it does take the "mick"

Well in the end it all arrived & worked and I was happy with it.

I was in a good mood so left some nondescript (positive) feedback. :-P

Time to go on the hunt for a few more games..
