can we all agree on a game we liked?

Just because ewgf loves Perfect Dark doesn't mean everyone else has to.

Reading through the thread I get the impression that if someone disagrees with ewgf's choice of favourite games then they must by definition be wrong.

The answer to the question the thread posed is unanswerable as every one has different tastes.

What I don't want to see is emotions running high and unwanted comments made leading to bannings and suspensions, so can everyone please put a little thought into their posts before hitting "Submit Reply".
i cant get into perfect dark either, suppose like dunny said earlier i wasnt playing it when it came out so maybe thats why

much prefer goldeneye (now i did play that at the time and loved it)

The thing I found most frustrating with all the Mario Kart games was the feeling of cheatingbastness you got from it when you were doing quite well and then at the last turn you'd get hit by EVERY F*@%ING WEAPON in the game putting you last. It's not a bug or anything, but it just makes you go mental with anger!
    heh heh

    yup, brings back memories :P

    Trust me, you're wrong. [etc]

Blimey! I'm glad your programming logic is better than your game-judging logic. Actually, come to think of it, I'm sort of like the inverse version of you - my programming might be crap (it is), but I know a good game when I see one.

Anyway, on topic, what about Chuckie Egg? Surely we all love that old classic?

(I was going to suggest Carmageddon, but Dunny might get ideas from that and run me over as revenge - eek!)

I could never really get into PD either.. Goldeneye was much better in my book. But then again I'd still rather play any of the Doom, Quake or Halflife series on a PC anyday.

    Chuckie Egg is awesome.

However, I've seen more than enough people running back and forth without figuring out how to climb up the ladders to know that its appeal is less than universal.

Totally agree. No point leading for most of the race in the SNES version as the 2nd place car throws everything at you. Plus the 5 laps are dull, prefer the GBA version, great tracks and only 3 laps per race

i love the speccy version to bits, can move around the screen easily, but tried the bbc version last year at a show with winston and felt restricted it just didnt have the same kind of movement :(

    I'm a PD and a Half-life hater.

I liked Doom and Quake back in the day, but now I'd say of those 2 I only really still like Doom. Tryed to replay Quake a while back and it was a chore. Hated Quake 2, and I basically had a quick go and laughed at everything that came after that. Unreal was crap as well! As was Timesplitters, it had awful comical characters with big noses and stupid 70's pornstar sunglasses, but played like a serious shooter, just horrible, and the levels were badly designed and the action itself just crap.........and don't get me started on Halo!!!

Funnily enough from what I've played of FPS games over the last 10 years, they just keep getting worse and worse. The last FPS I vaguely remember getting the slightest enjoyment from was Red Faction on the PS2, and that soon got stale and very boring.

So lets just agree FPS games on consoles and PC are Sh*t! :p

The whole problem here is that I'm rarely wrong, and this is not one of those times.

I was gonna suggest Bioshock as a possible contender, but you've ruined that now! :p

Agreed - you are not now rarely wrong.

    I accept your apology.

Regarding Mario Kart, the one-bit-of-bad-luck-and-you-go-from-first-to-last-because-of-blind-chance 'problem' (actually a feature, according to Nintendo, designed to give less skilled players a chance) was one of the reasons why the Mario Kart 64 vs. Diddy Kong Racing flame wars were so lively. Many people felt that it was unfair and undervalued skill, and so prefered the Diddy Kong Racing game as it favoured skill. Personally I liked DDR better too, because to me it just seemed more fun, but I'm not a kart racer fan really, so I'm no judge.

I did really like Super Mario Kart back in the SNES days though, but the N64 version didn't grab me.

Speaking of the N64 or the SNES, what about Pilot Wings and Pilot Wings 64? Could anyone not like them? Donkey Kong Country? Banjo Kazooie? XIII? Second Sight?

Or Unreal Tournament? Sim City 2000? The Sentinel? Timesplitters 2? Though I prefer Timesplitters Future Perfect Myself?

I've not yet played that, but it's another one on my list, it is supposed to be very good and very frightening, though I've never found a game to be frightening. Not trying to sound macho or anything but aside from a couple of minor jumps (Alien vs. Predator, or Doom when you're going through a dark section and an imp leaps out and fireballs you) no game has every made me nervous. I'm not too brave or anything, I just don't get so drawn into the games, somehow. I've heard of people who won't play a certain game when they're alone or when it's dark (the room I mean, not the game), and a mate of mine had to stop playing Quake 2 as he said the imagery made him feel, not sick (it wasn't motion sickness or anything, and he loves first person shooters), and not frightened, but something more towards fear, I can't remember his exact words, but basically it frightened him so he stopped playing it. And he wasn't a kid, he's older than me.

Bioshock was great! So was the sequel, but I'd have prefered it to have been harder, to have shown more of Rapture before the fall, and to have built more upon the first one. Minvera's Den is a great addon, you have to pay for it on the 360 (you have to pay for everything on the 360 :-(), but maybe it's free on the PC?

System Shock 2 is another great game, but sadly not many people have played it.

You and me both. Many people on the Steam forums have described it as scary so it clearly works for some but it is really just some of those "jump" moments as you suggested. Still good though IMO!

Nice to see everyone's still getting along swimmingly.. :p

Anyhoo, for the record, I love Perfect Dark, Super Mario Kart on SNES, Chuckie Egg and a lot of the rest....but I wouldn't say any of them were the best game ever.....

I could never pick a best game ever or even a top 100, at least not one that would be true for more than a day. I just love too many games, and my tastes change depending on my mood....so I might love Perfect Dark (for instance) one day, and then get pissed off with it the next because I get stuck in it or something.....

I guess what I'm trying to say is, that if one person (me) finds it so bloomin' hard to decide on what my favourite game is, finding one that pretty much everybody likes is going to be almost impossible!!

But you should all play Bishi Bashi Special on PS1...:D

I'm joking, although I should have added a smiley, sorry about that.

I know, it's like the way every "best of..." list on the 'net always seems to be way off the mark to anyone else who reads it. The only list you'll ever agree with is the one you write yourself, and even then most people would answer differently if a week later they were asked to write the list again.

I think we can all agree that the answer to the question
can we all agree on a game we liked

    is NO.

  • edited April 2011
WOPR : Would you like to play a game?
David : Weeeeelll, the depends. Is it any good? I mean, will I actually like it? You might think it's a good game, but i might think it's crap!
WOPR : uuuuummm.....it was just Tic Tac Toe, you cock. Look, just forget it!
    David : SEATTLE!!!

Not a very exciting answer, but one game I think everybody likes is Solitaire in MS Windows since about 2000. Surely everyone has happily killed a few hours on this game?

    Guess what.... ;)

But how about Gauntlet (either arcade or home computer)?

No one actually stated (as far as I remember, I haven't checked through the whole thread) that they didn't like Manic Miner, Skool Daze or Trashman, so I assume we all like those?

I've never liked Skool Daze, used to enjoy playing the other two though...
