Can we all agree on a TV comedy we liked?

edited April 2011 in Chit chat
Since there's a thread to see if we can agree on liking a specific Spectrum game, I thought I'd make a thread to see if we all liked any particular television comedy. For this, let's disregard later (or earlier) seasons of the same series that were different, and just judge what you liked. For example, I'll say that I like Red Dwarf, as even though I hate series (or seasons) seven and eight, and absolutely detest Back to Earth, I still like series one to six.

So here's my initial suggestions, that (of course) I like:

Monty Python's Flying Circus,
Blackadder (didn't much care for series one, and HATED the final special, Blackadder back and Forth, but since I like some of it (series two to four) it's in my 'like' selection),
Hancock's Half Hour,
Steptoe and Son,
Fawlty Towers,
Red Dwarf,
Frasier,

Anyone not like any of the above? Any more suggestions?

Can't f**kin' stand it! Utter turd!

The rest of your list is OK, although I'm not really that keen on Slack Bladder these days, not really that funny at all, although Rowan Atkinson has a tendency to be annoyingly unfunny at times.

I like a lot of the old classics: Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The thin blue line (Inspector Grim should have had his own tv show!), One foot in the grave and Dads army.

I used to like Blackadder but watched it recently again and thought it was jaded. Massive fan of Ben Elton, but just wasn't funny anymore ??

All those American comedies you mention, I've watched all of them and just hated them. Put the Simpsons on that list too!

I'm Alan Partridge (first series is comedy dynamite, the second one he became a parody of himself).
Malcolm in The Middle - probably the best ever yank comedy. Just full of brilliant characters.
My Name is Earl - season 1 and 2 are utter brilliance, it fell apart for the final two though.
Fawlty Towers - best comedy ever made.

And pretty much everything everyone else has mentioned! - never seen an episode of Frasier though.

    Yes indeed!

One of the only DVD boxsets I own, christmas prezzie from the missus a few years back, cost a bloody fortune it did.

But worth it......even though I've still never watched it past the christmas episode with Father Todd Umptious. Don't know why either series 3 has some of the best episodes? :D

Oh well the next time the boss gives me a few days off in a row, and I'm not distracted by video games I'll maybe sit down and have a marathon?

    Yes, Minister.

    Monkey Magic
    Only Fools and Horses
    Harry Enfield and Chums
    Gimme Gimme Gimme
    The Two Ronnies
    Some Mother Do 'Ave Em
    Morcome and Wise
    Keeping Up Appearances
    Porrage
    Open All Hours

... oh and Jim Davidson live if I can throw that one in on my little list (although not exactly a TV comedy, more of a standup commedian).

... Red Dwarf is NOT on my above list, coz it was a load of ****. Neither is Frasier or Friends - I fecking hate those American shows with dubbed laughter: it's almost like the audience is held at gunpoint and made to laugh on cue and it gets on me tits.

The Goodies Ultimate comedy series. Fantastic stuff.

Blackadder (The Second) and the Back & Forth special were my favourites. Hated Blackadder goes forth though.

All american comedies are by default not funny! When you need a laughingtape to get people to laugh, then the comedie isn't funny.

And yes there are exceptions to the rule.
Married with children and a lot of drawn series like i.e. the Simpsons, Futurama and South Park ( but also bad series in those too)

Comedies that I have enjoyed (canned laughter or not):

    * Yes Minister/Prime Minister - One of the funnest comedies that's been my pleasure to watch without ever resorting to low brow stuff even once.

    * Fawlty Towers - John Cleese at his finest surely?

    * 'Allo 'Allo - The bits with the French Resistance are the funniest!

    * Friends - I can watch friends re-runs many times over and still be falling off the chair with laughter.

    * How I met your mother - It took me some time to get a shine to this but once I did, I found it quite funny.

    * Two and a half men - Quite low brow at times but with Charlie Sheen delivering some killer one-liners in his own inimitable style it's worth a watch.

My favourite series of Blackadder was the first one. I know it's considered one of the weakest, but the fact that Baldrick was smarter than Edmund, and Brian Blessed as the fantastic King made it for me!

I agree with Friends. My favourite episode of all is "The One with Phoebe's Uterus", where the guys and gals challenge each other to a game set up by Ross. I piss myself with laughter every time watching that episode.

Really? All american comedies are so predicting. Really not funny. Friends is the most predictable of them all.

Curb Your Enthusiasm? Arrested Development? I don't find them predictable at all.

I haven't yet met anyone who actively dislikes Black Books. Anyone care to expand my horizons by saying they thought it was crud?

    EDIT: What a dull 500th post ;)

    Simple examples like
"Don't do this" and then they do it.
"I hate people who fart" and then someone farts loudly.
"When someone makes a remark about my hair, they get pinched"
wait 2 seconds: Someone comes in and says "What have you done to your hair?"
    etc. etc. etc. etc.

    Not funny!
