Every 10 years? I definitely didn't get a census form in 2001... I remember filling in one in 1991 though.

I'm a failure as an anarchist.

    :(

Its easier for the government to ignore the needs of those that choose to remain invisible.

I'm non-resident right now so I can't fill out the census this time, however, I do think its important for all to be counted so that the population/demographic trends and Zeitgeist can be accurately measured.

The census is absolutely not a waste of money. The information gained from the census is used to plan services and allocate capital from central and local government. The money spent sounds like a lot, and maybe its more than it needs to be, but the census has been and always shall be required. Every developed country has a census. Without it, we would quite literally not know who we are and how we got here.

Using the census as a form of protest is harmful. The census will never ever be canceled. It is expensive and bureaucratic but that's part of the reason why it is only once every 10 years. Without it though, government is blind.

When we are old will our grandchildren get a digital inheritance? Will they want to keep out memories alive by maintaining the subscription to the web provider we host our pages on?? Or will our digital presence gradually be wiped when we don't log in any more or pay the subscription charges.

    I have a similar problem...

The mini-block of flats in which I live, at the beginning of this year, received (from the TV Licence people) a letter addressed to "The Occupier / 32 {my street}". I contacted them via their website, pointing out that 30 and 32 are no longer houses but were converted (well over 25 years ago) into blocks of three flats each; so that "30" refers to the building as a whole, but the actual households are 30a, 30b and 30c, and likewsie for "32". They have chosen to ignore this correction and send another letter addressed to "32".

Oh well, if they want to waste their time and money chasing the phantom householder of a nonexistent household, that's their problem. :p :D

Well I filled out the census, and so did my partner. We returned it earlier than necessary as we just wanted to get the bloody thing done and posted.

What happens next? Some guy from the census knocks at the door and accuses me and my partner of not filling out the form, to which I told the **** I had already filled out and completed it. He said he would recheck his records, and then buggered off.
