I enjoyed GTA IV the most so far out of the sandboxers I've played (funnily enough Scarface, bully, and Yakuza bring up the rear instead of another GTA)
Have you tried Just Cause 2? Of course, I am sure it doesn't reach the qualities of GTA IV in many ways, but in many others it offers way more than any other sandboxer out there...

Agreed. It's probably the most fun you'll have in a sandbox game without actually touching any missions... I've spent most of my 30+ hours of game time so far just wandering around blowing stuff up.
I only said whoever cos' I couldn't remember if it was you, Vinnie, or Greencard? And I couldn't be arsed to backtrack 20 or 30 pages to find out :p
Not me, I'm only a decent player on the original GTA's (remember those - the top down views? They were fab). I'm rubbish at Vice City, but I had an action replay disc for that :D
Didn't help with that bloody race against Hilary. I could never get that done so I've not seen the end. After that I've never bothered with GTA as I just suck at them. I'd probably do better playing the arcade of Dragon's Lair blindfolded
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Yup I remember one weekend in about 2001 I was out of work and skint and couldn't afford to go out on the piss, so one of my mates took pity and me and loaned me his PS2 so I had something to do. I remember that mission with that race took me bloody hours, even when I played through it again here a few years back it took me hours. I was getting to the point where I was stashing a Comet a little down the road then trying to ram Hilary off the road so I had a couple of seconds to switch cars. Problem with this is about 50% of the time the comet would vanish, or hilary would tear off into the distance and I'd have to just leave the comet anyway

Now I'm one of these awkward so and so's that doesn't really like playing a sequel unless I've also played the original. Was the original on the PS2? I guess I'm screwed if it was an XBOX exclusive?
From what I remember reading about the first one apparently it was very buggy and sluggish and suffered from lots of gaming no no's. But it was fun if you persevered (maybe I'm thinking about what I've read about True Crime though?).

I'm pretty sure it was on the PS2 aswell, I remember someone saying in this thread that it was buggy on the PS2 and fine on the Xbox. Or maybe it was the other way round?

I did the weekly challenge in Reach with some German dude the other night...took us about the same amount of time you and I played that first All Skulls challenge.....the bit where you first get on the corvette is the bit that had us stuck for ages....
Yeah, that bit can suck. Did you use the glitch at the end where you can get inside the UNSC ship and use it's turret? That was a brilliant find.
Have you got your mic fixed yet?
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.

That was probably me. It sucks many round sweaty things on the PS2, the Xbox version is vastly superior in every way. It's also available on the 360 though, so I don't see why it shouldn't be on the PS3 too...
Didn't know anything about that glitch...would have been handy!
Check out The Tyrant's Mythic walkthrough, the last two vids on the page. It's worth checking most of the vids though, there are a few brilliant ideas in it.
I'd recommend cheking out the Exodus run aswell (that'll be the weekly in a fortnight), there's 2 nifty bypasses on that. Unfortunately, they're both after you get the jetpack. So we'd still have to do the first part properly.
It's worth looking at the vid for how he gets rid of the FRG Brute Hero before you get on the Falcon. That bit's bloody cheeky! :D

Haha! Playing The Ballad of Gay Tony, it's one of the funnier one's that's for sure. I laughed at the club management bit throwing a creepy toucher out of the bar then having to go and rescue a big time rapper from the paparazzi cos' he's at a gay bar
Gonna try for the LC Cage Fighters Championship now, should help me brush up on my melee counters cos' I've struggled with fist fights all the way up until now.
EDIT: Well I got the championship quite easily, and I've done 3 random encounters and got some of the stupid buddy crap out of the way. Still gotta take those 2 muppet friends out drinking, to a show, gotta play pool, I think I've done the rest though.
Seem to be going to the docks in East Hook with Evan and Tony, seems a little early but then again this game takes place quite far into the main game? So? Notice the cut scene for this mission Gracie Ancelotti says "I'm going to sell my car", no doubt that pink one you kidnap her in with Niko
I dunno how this mission is going to work? Unless I just have to lose The Lost?
Spoiler:
I know Evan is gonna get it though, since I killed him a few days ago playing as Johnny Klebitz "I'm a bodybuilder you know!", "Yeah? Well come back and fight like one muscles!"
Got Dynasty Warriors 7 today. Not bad since it doesn't come out til tomorrow and it was only posted yesterday :D
It'll take a bit of getting used to with the levelling up changes. The Musou is drastically different aswell, and there are no tomes! Still, it's pretty good so far. I've done the first 5 or 6 battles in Conquest mode and I'm not doing too bad.
I think I'm getting near the end of Borderlands aswell. I've got to find Patricia Tannis (who's disappeared off somewhere).. I've just finished the boss fight on the digger in the desert. Getting to the guy was tougher than he was which was a nice surprise. I can't find two of the bloody machine gun parts around the digger though. I've been everywhere but I've obviously missed them because they'll be sitting somewhere obvious!
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.

Gay Tony again, for an add on this game has almost as much stuff going on as GTA IV, I've got about 30% done, and I think I've done 12 story missions, and some other bits n' pieces. I assume all the extra crap doesn't give you too much percentage?
Did the champagne drink off earlier and after falling down the nightclub stairs drunk did some dancing and banged a girl called Taylor in the bogs, who gave me her number, and now I have a Booty Call on the map which made me laugh
Closer to reality this game, not so much killing and more getting into ridiculous scrapes and dodgy situations involving drunken stupidity and drugs. Basically I guess what I'm saying is this episode of GTA IV is a lot more light hearted and funny than the main game and The Lost.
Did the champagne drink off earlier and after falling down the nightclub stairs drunk did some dancing and banged a girl called Taylor in the bogs, who gave me her number, and now I have a Booty Call on the map which made me laugh
Have you got so drunk you've ended up passing out yet? That can have some interesting results..... :D
Have you got so drunk you've ended up passing out yet? That can have some interesting results..... :D
Nah after downing the bottle of champagne I was tempted to start slamming shots at the bar, but I opted for the dancing. I knew you could do it but I didn't try it until after the mission when you have to do it, to hit on some ex-girlfriend. Hilarious mission that is especially when her boyfriend walks in on her sucking you off
Of course the massacre that follows kinda takes the comic edge off a little :D
Ballad of Gay Tony again been doing the drug wars until yesterday when I did the 25th one, and instead of saying drug wars complete it said drug wars 25/50. So the buggers added another 25 (I had my suspicions this was going to happen sooner or later on one of these games) :o
Anyway after getting to about 37 drug wars I decided to call it a day for a little while, so when I got in from work I did Mori's last mission instead, just to get him out of the way. After his missions I've decided I no longer hate Brucie as much as I did infact it was good to see him
Spoiler:
break Mori's nose
Anyway was messing around to see if I could get any more girls numbers by dancing, and afterwards there were no taxi's spawning so I though to myself wonder what would happen if I went down the road to Hercules and tried the dancing? :D
Anyway I went into Hercules found 1 girl in there and danced with her til' she kissed me, but no banging her in the bogs, figured she must be a lesbian since Hercules is the gay club, so I danced again and this time I got this ridiculous queen (Blue Oyster bar style ) challenge me to a dance off. Probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a video game (reminded me a bit of American Pie 3). I was quite happy (bit not surprised at all) that Luis did some popping as I was wondering if that would appear at all since there were dance challenges? A bit cheesy and a bit stereotypical but it was hilarious. I'm at the 68. something mark and it still seems like I have a load left to do.
......and Bulgarin turning up with missions for you? That's interesting? Seems like it's going off the chart a little with the other main game and TLatD. But no doubt it'll eventually tie in somehow (probably something to do those bloody diamonds again?).
Not really sure I'm enjoying it that much anymore, too much chopper and parachute related crap going on chopper onto the Libertonian, Chopper and skydive onto a skyscraper, Follow Packie in a chopper....boring!
The base jumps are cack as well if I wanted to parachute through several badly placed floating rings I'd play Pilotwings! [pedant]They're not even base jumps they're skydives, base jumping is jumping off things then running away when the coppers come after you land, not flying up in a chopper and jumping out of it miles above something you could jump off[/pedant]
Haven't even tried the Triathlon's even though I did the mission with Mori on the first attempt with the greatest of ease I have no desire to do them. I may have just burnt myself out on GTA as between the main game, TLatD, and TBOGT I've been playing GTA for almost 4 months straight, and I'll be honest I'm itching to play Yakuza 2, but don't want to start it til' I'm finished off here.
May just finish the story missions and call it a day, I can always replay them later which is a nice feature that should've been added to the GTA series years ago. Since once you get the 100% there's really no point in playing them again, or at least not with the save with the 100%
You probably don't get anything for the 100% anyway, you didn't With The Lost, or at least nothing noticable, just a few depressing phonecalls from your mates. Yeah thanks for the closure...arses!
I've been quite bored today, and so I decided to try out some free-to-play MMOs, just to see what they're like...
Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online - Pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Great graphics, and playable via your browser, so no installation needed (just the Unity plug-in for whatever browser you use).
Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures - Looks quite nice, but it's one of those that says it's free but hardly lets you do anything until you upgrade to a gold account. Again, browser-based.
Second Life - A few people I know used to play this a lot. I can't make heads or tails of it, to be honest. Haven't a clue what's going on in it or what to do. Bizarre!
Dead Frontier - This is the best one I've tried so far, third-person shooter with a bit of RPG thrown in. Zombies. Violence. Nice.

i had a go once, i was walking around wondering what to do, when i tried to go somewhere and it said i needed to be age verified, so i thought ok, put in a bogus passport number (i was like wtf when it asked for that) and once it knew i was over 18 i soon found out what second life was all about. :-o

Haha really? Don't suppose you remember where that happened? Sounds interesting.
I had a little walk around a virtual Kensington until I realised I had no idea what I was doing. So I then went back to the help "world" where some 16 year old kid kept following me around asking "do you like this game" every five minutes. I then discovered I could fly (?) and so I flew away.
What's with the music? It seems to change station every few seconds. It'll play Lady Gaga one minute, and then Metallica the next, and then Black Eyed Peas or something. Crazy game!
I picked up Darksiders on 360 for a fiver, so I've been playing that! Liking it lots, bit like God Of War crossed with Soul Reaver crossed with something else...sure people mentioned it somewhere in this thread already and said similar things (can't be bothered checking)....
I'm fighting Tiamat the Dragon-woman-thingy at the moment and it's suddenly very tricky!
Yep, I found that pretty tough too. It was an epic battle, took me ages...
I'm finding it extra tough, because I'm trying to not think about the dragon with the same name from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon whilst I'm playing it!

That'd be me first last year probably, then I think GreenCard just a few pages back. I mentioned Soul Reaver as a comparison aswell (it was filling in the SR shaped void on this generation), but I think someone mentioned Zelda (from the N64 era?). I just hope the sequel goes ahead and is as good!
I'm finding it extra tough, because I'm trying to not think about the dragon with the same name from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon whilst I'm playing it!

Party's Over! No doubt the last story mission, Russian mobsters everywhere, way more hardcore than any of Niko's missions in the main game, nice to see what the score is with Bulgarin, there was never any closure on him in the main game, he just kinda vanished after Dimitri set you up?
Gonna finish up the story I guess, then the PS3 is taking a short vacation under the table, and the PS2 is returning to it's former glory on top of the table, so I can play Yakuza 2. I'll come back to TBOGT for the 100% another time, since you can replay the story missions in this game that makes it much more appealing to try for the 100% after you've clocked it.
I suppose if I gave a nutsack about trophies I could try for all of those on the DLC's? But I probably won't bother? :D
