Chest Pains
Over the last 2 days i've been getting bad pains in the centre of my chest. I initally thought it was indigestion but after a few rennies it was still there.
It died away a few hours later but since then there has been intermittent pains in my chest which can last from 10 seconds to a few minutes, i've also had numbness in my arms! i'm worried because heart problems run in the family. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my heart. The pain feels like it's coming from a heart muscle.
I've made an appointment to see the doctor on Thursday but i'm terrified they'll find something and i'll need surgery.

If the GP thinks it could be a heart problem, and you state your family has a history of it, the hospital will fit you with a heart monitor box (which looks a bit like a walkman), which has electodes attached to your chest. The box records your heart function throughout the day and night, and if you feel faint, their is a little button you press - the hospital then downloads the data and looks at what time interval you pressed the button on the box, and compares that to the ECG of your heart rythum that the heart monitor recorded - this allows them to establish if it is indeed heart related.
Hope that puts your mind at rest.
good luck
We can't have anything happening to one of our chums :)
Also occasionally the right side of my head will feel strange, almost numb as well?
I eat crap food, I drink beer, and my job involves nothing but heavy lifting and physical and mental excertion.
I smoke as well.
Guess I'm due a massive coronary soon, but I won't get it seen to......If I survive the Giger Alien bursting through my chest I'll just tell everyone who said I was mental "I told you so!".
if i were you id ring NHS direct tonight. chest pains aren't something you should be mucking around with. you GP will only refer you for a scan if he thinks its serious, that something nhs direct can sort for you, or even get you to a gp sooner.
@ boozy - id call 911 if i were you, that sounds pretty serious
I agree with Mile..
Going to the doctor is the best thing you can do, anyway, to clear up any doubts.
I hope all will go ok, mate! :-)
lol,
Off that computer and start exercising
Love mum !
... or play more sports Spectrum games (Daley Thompson's Decathlon, Match Day, ...) :p
I dont think thats a good idea, i think 'waggling his joystick furiously' might have been the cause ;)
I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice (said in the best "I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice" voice), but the heart isn't in the centre of the chest, it's off to one side, and you often feel heart pains in the left arm/neck area (referred pain) as well as possibly the chest, because they "argh I'm having a heart attack" nerve for some reason connects to the same bit as the "argh my arm hurts" bit in the brain.
But unexplained pains? Definitely want to see the doctor as soon as possible. Even if it's not serious it's miserable living with pain.
In any case, hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.
Hope you're fine, and let us know what the doctor says.
Why do people decide to go onto a forum and ask the members about an illness instead of getting themselves down to A & E or a doctor straight away?
If it were me I certainly wouldn't be asking mile or boozie for a diagnosis and waiting a couple of hours (or even a day) for a reply.
I'd be straight off to get some professional medical advice or treatment.
As much as we enjoy reading and posting to the WoS forums it isn't worth dying for.
Just my two pence.
i take offence!!
we are usually quite quick when we are giving important medical advice. ;)
The rest of the internet is full of sites bankrolled by American pharmaceutical companies that want to tell you that yes, that dry bit of skin on your shin and lingering cough from last month's cold means you are going to die a lingering and painful death as your internal organs sequentially rupture unless you immediately start on their course of pills at $10,000 a day.
On the other hand, Boots' 'Web MD' site seems to be pretty good at diagnostics from syptoms to get an idea of what might be the matter. Again, no substitute for a doctor, but it can help you get a sense of the seriousness of the problem.
Still, this forum is the last place you should be looking for medical advice...

Good point. Love forums ! People ask for advice on everything, medical problems, lots of questions about problems with someones marriage/girlfriend/online date, money issues etc.
We're like a really bad wikipedia ! ;)
To be fair i think my medical advice given out (Learnt from Doogie Howser back in the early 90's) hasnt been too bad. I used to watch that program weekly so i think by law i'm allowed to say i'm a doctor
I wasn't asking them for medical advice (heaven forbid!). I was just letting people know i haven't been well. Bermodsey Bob (hi!) was posting on here recently about his kidney problems. That's what chit chat is all about.
By the way, has anyone heard from him? The last i heard he was being transferred to a different hospital.
