+3 not playing disks

edited May 2011 in Hardware
I'm thinking it just requires a new drive belt but would like to run it by people more knowledgeable than myself! +3 if mine works fine using tapes and stuff, but trying to play a disk results in thr drive making a noise like it's spinning but not doing anything...so, does that sound like the drive belt?

cheers

sounds about right, when you swap it (takes longer to take the machine and drive apart) just watch the write protect pin doesn't drop out, they're small and very eay to lose

It's a tiny bit fiddly but you find a guide here on DataServe Retro's site (I can recommend them - I got my "first" retro +3 from them), just make sure not to twist the belt putting it on :)

Drive belt replaced and everything all works now. Following that link above it is relatively straight forward, but as already said, fiddly. Right, that's 1 of 3 fixed - just the other 2, now.

I bought a +3 Spectrum with a non functioning drive last November.

Finally got round to ordering the drive belts and scart lead.

Opened the +3 up and found that the original belt had snapped. Followed a guide, cleaned it all up, replaced the belt and hey presto it works!

The drive purrs like a kitchen I tells ya. Formatted a disc which was fine and saved/loaded a program to test.

Also plugged in the scart lead. Crystal clear picture. I can honestly say it is the clearest spectrum picture I have ever seen (bar emulators).

    Very pleased indeed.
