I`m getting out of here

edited May 2011 in Chit chat
Dear oh dear oh dear

The WOS-forums are becoming an uglier place to be by the day.

I don?t like it here anymore
So I?m asking the mods to delete my account and all my post.
(I am not kidding)

Goodbye and farewell
(I know I won?t be missed?:p)

    I'm no drama queen...

I don't like how some members are reacting

...and that's just in water, you should see what happens when you dunk em' in lemon juice ;)

On a serious note though why not just take a break? Come back in a bit and if you still don't like it, then pack up and move onto something greener? :)

Unfortunately although you are the legal copyright owner of your posts, neither the mods nor the forum owner will delete them or your account, or enable you to delete them yourself. The house rules were changed after I deleted a large number of my old posts that I didn't feel were worth keeping.

Aside from that, it would take quite a bit of time to do, having to delete individual posts.

When people request a new account, Martijn really ought to make them 'sign' an agreement to the effect that 'your posts will be here for all time and no editing is allowed after x amount of time has passed' before permitting them to sign up. I think preventing users from editing or deleting posts was a bad idea and it certainly makes me much more cautious about what I write.

No way! You would only ever need to delete your posts if you later regret something you have written. Don't insult anybody and keep it light and fluffy and nothing you write will ever need to be deleted.
A good rule of thumb is this - never write anything on the internet (messageboards, facebook, emails, IM etc) that you wouldn't say in real life. If you have read something that has made you angry then take a step back and leave it for a while before you post. NEVER post anything when you are angry.

You'll find that I stay away from the contentious threads on this board (the royal wedding one being a good case in point) as they just aren't worth getting involved with. I have been involved in flame wars on other sites in the past and it's just silly. No one wins and everyone just ends up looking stupid.

Keep it light and fluffy and everything will be cool.
    Its all good ;)

It would only take a few minutes to write a php script to scan the db for any posts by userX and delete them. It would make for a very "untidy" forum though.

    Well said.:)

I've been (am) active on a few forums, and have never felt the need to delete/ask for a post to be deleted on any of them

I thinned out all the boring posts that no-one would ever be interested in, in order to make it easier to find the ones they might. I've never said anything on the Internet that I wouldn't be prepared to say to someone's face, on my own, in a dark alley, surrounded by their friends.

"Would you like to try SE BASIC?"

"What? No give us your wallet or we'll stab your eyes out!"

I can see that working out for you in that situation ;)

you do realise you have to listen to the farewell song ... right... and by leaving your admitting to being their #1 fan

it was either that or a james blunt song featuring goodbye

I for one am always sorry to see people feel they have to leave WOS....if you feel you have to though, then do so by all means.

But stick yir head in every now again and see if it's resumed it's rosy freshness for you...
