I prefer to have the music in my hands rather than a virtual music collection, i guess i'm one of the minority.
I have an 18 year old cousin who will only download tracks to her phone and listen that way, she refuses to buy cds saying they're 'old fashioned'.

And when her phone is stolen/breaks she'll have to go through the rigmarole of downloading them all again, which if you've got a lot of mp3's is a long time.
Glad to see I'm not the only pointing and saying 'But the Emperor's got no clothes on!!'
I don't get why anyone would want an MP3 or download instead of a CD, especially when there's so little difference in price (if any sometimes). To me it makes far more sense to get the CD so you get superior sound quality, the album artwork, booklet etc and don't have to worry about DRM or all that crap. Plus, you can make your own MP3/AAC/whatever you want copy AS WELL so it's a win-win situation as far as I can see.
I can understand the "but you can download it straight away rather than having to go to the shops or wait for the CD to arrive in the post" argument but if people are too stupid to wait then more fool them.
Another thing that bugs the hell out of me is when artists/record companies ONLY release stuff via download or, even worse, only release stuff via one specific site e.g. [strike]Satan's Man on Earth[/strike] Steve Jobs'

agree entirely, i buy as much physical product as i can....afford / fit in the house lol, cant beat holding it, reading it, sniffing it
these days i download a lot but buy the stuff i really really like.
ive seen physical products cheaper than downloads online, hows that work?? surely theres a lot less needed expense wise for downloads?? ie:- transportation, warehousing, the actual materials needed to make it???

They also refuse to release a "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits" album. Good to see at least one band maintaining their integrity.
i know how this is going to turn out :P but the streets havent either.........lol
was talking about that with a workmate the other day, he asked if theres an album with all their good singles on

I actively prefer vinyl to cd. I'm not an audiophile nut I just like the whole ritual of getting the album out, cleaning it, turning it over in the middle...I don't know why, it just seems to be more satisfying, even if you do get background hum and scratches etc.
Re AC/DC not doing the greatest hits thing, isn't the Iron Man 2 soundtrack sort of a best of? Actually, bearing in mind I think Black Ice was a stunning and unexpected return to form and that it was their first solid from end to end lp since Back In Black, if they did a greatest hits album there'd be no reason to buy anything from the 30 odd years in between. I mean, hands up anyone out there who really rates Flick Of The Switch, Fly On The Wall or Blow Up Your Video? The singles from those albums may have been ok but they had a huge amount of filler. Discuss.
cheers
Chris

downloaded an album off amazon the other day for ?7 - to buy the CD new off them was ?31 :-o (Lil'O -'My Struggle My Hustle)! I prefer having a brand spanking new CD with lovely crisp inlay card in theory but I'm not rich
also most of what I buy these days is new dnb tunes that are released on digital only. so I've become MP3-ized out of necessity really.
I used to think like that, but when you buy an album that has 2 good songs and 10 fillers on it, it gets quite annoying. Downloading is perfect for try before you buy :D
....and also for getting hold of stuff that was never officially released or no longer available.

Me too i always remember to buy a U2 album every Christmas. We wouldnt want Bono running out of hats now would we.
No but we would want him to shut the f**k up and piss off! :D
Oh yes!!! Couldn't agree with you more, dm.
