I find jokes about worms in cans to be deeply offensive. To cruelly lock up a worm for no reason for months on end is just sick.

    Spectecjnr did say:-

`Given that there's nowhere this thread can go but down, it seems, I'm just going to leave it at this - sorry, CK, if I offended you, but I don't find that stuff funny at all. I worked at Microsoft once. When people online found that out, sometimes they'd threaten to come over with handgrenades and other such things and blow the place up. They might have been "joking", but frankly there's always the chance that they were not. It's kind of sad really.`

I accept the apology, though certainly no apology was needed, so whether it be that the apology was meant, or given as it felt it should be offered... thank you

I would have rather have seen an apology offered to Mel, as I myself don`t take any of this too much to heart... and certainly name calling is something that I try hard not to do, having grown up with a bad skin disease I`ve been called everything from E.T and Freddy Kreuger to Elephant Man in my youth so certainly being called, or it being inferred that I am an idiot is certainly not something that would bother me.

and just to put things in context, violence is very often used in Comedy, `Bottom` anyone, has such an amount of heavy comedic violance. I`ve personally been beaten unconscious many times, and have some lovely scars on myface from the past few years, we live in a violent world, and most of it is indescrimite and out of the blue. So perhaps where I live, there is a very heavy culture of verbal comedic violent statements, however I am certainly not someone who believes in non provoked agression.

I find it most unfortunate however, the way that your casual dismissal of Mel was seemingly offered up without regret, or without an apology, and then escalated to such a point that you`ve had to defend yourself both within that Topic and this one.

I think perhaps your continual appearance of `attitude` was partly due to this `defense` of yourself under attack, or at least I would hope so. It is sad that we lot who meet here and have so soo much in common have to argue to such a point, and let things escalate to such fierce proportions over silly little things, jokes, comments etc etc

This really is a fantastic forum, with some of the best and most decent people about, and we do joke around a lot (more perhaps lately)...

(I didn`t get in til` 3 a.m. so missed a lot of this, sorry to everyone, I had to think long and hard before even posting again regarding this)

    :)

Apologies for presuming you were american, i found out later you werent but i thought no i'll leave my original comments.

I was also trying to say that invading a country is bad taste, saying a sarcastic joke about Bill Gates is no way as bad.

Ok you worked at Microsoft so your views on Bill Gates are different. But again that post was completely sarcastic, if you are going to get that upset with comments on the internet like that then jesus you should unplug your computer now as theres millions of things much much worse being
said. However those comments about when people found out you worked for Microsoft are totally OTT. I dont know the tone of the emails or if you knew these people (eg friends just joking around). Either way because of the way you've acted here and totally jumped at people i think you probably took most of the jokes totally the wrong way.

Yes of course South Park is a cartoon but that comment was a joke and wasnt real. If he was stood outside the HQ of Microsoft with a bazooka then i wouldnt joke would i ?

I'm not some person who normally gets so annoyed with others, i'm quite peaceful. But again I read that other thread when you totally jumped on someone for no reason at all, you act like some has-been pop star from the 50's who might have had one hit record. eg "I used to write for Your Sinclair", oh great, we'll all bow down to you.

Look at the other guy who wrote for YS (Steve Anderson), he had a lengthy discussion about that new YS supplement, some people didnt agree with him some did. Either way he didnt act like a tosser throwing insults immediately for no reason and I think everyone here enjoyed the thread with him and he seems like a top bloke.

Its kind of sad really that you take everything so seriously. I mean i admit if he hadnt put that joke at the end about beating up Bill Gates by putting 'then i would ask for a job' i might think hmmm bit over the top that comment. But reading it i instantly knew he was joking and didnt take any offence to it.

Again like i say theres MUCH much worse things on the internet.

I like to try and treat forums like we're all sat down at the pub. Yeah we'll have some disagreements but the tone would be totally different. Imagine coming over to a conversation and then giving your view and calling some other guy instantly a brainless moron or whatever you said. Piss poor.

Totally glad you left the forum and happy you werent invited at all for the YS supplement. Hopefully the follow up they'll do they wont ask you either.

Hmmm... funny... I seem to recall England invading Iraq as well as America invading Iraq, so pretty much anything you have to say on the subject is moot.

I also find it difficult to understand why you think that America invading Iraq has anything to do with me, precisely. Seems kind of odd to me.
Ok you worked at Microsoft so your views on Bill Gates are different.

Has pretty much nothing to do with it actually. I'd feel the same way if someone was talking that way about you, and I don't know you from adam.

Funny... I don't see it like that at all. I worked for YS 11 years ago. It was great fun. But it was also 11 years ago. Would I jump at the chance to get involved in anything like that again? Sure. Does that mean I expect people to bow down before me? If I did, do you really think I'd be wasting my time having flamewars with the peasantry?

Answer: no. Heck, I wrote for Internet Today magazine for much longer than I wrote for YS. It also paid about six times as much, and had a higher circulation.

He also didn't have people attacking him because he lives in Seattle, didn't have people callng him a troll and bouncing up and down, and didn't have to deal with people like Dunny who appear to get off on winding other people up. He had people disagreeing with him. There's a difference there.
Its kind of sad really that you take everything so seriously. I mean i admit if he hadnt put that joke at the end about beating up Bill Gates by putting 'then i would ask for a job' i might think hmmm bit over the top that comment. I take it you didn't read the other posts in this thread, specifically the one where I apologised to CK?

    No?
Totally glad you left the forum and happy you werent invited at all for the YS supplement. Hopefully the follow up they'll do they wont ask you either.

Thread, not forum. And as for not being invited... is this some kind of piss-poor attempt at a knife in the back.

From the depth of your basement, you stab at me.

Deary deary me. Please - get some better ammo some time.

You totally overreacted on one of the other threads about i think it was a browser, okay you've apologised but you can understand why the rest of us suddenly disliked this newbie for turning up and being a t*at.

Then you get deeply offended by that Bill Gates joke. Like i say every day in the paper or on the internet theres poor taste jokes or papers slating some celeb for something which isnt major etc. I still find it crazy the way you overreacted about a post about Bill Gates. Again there are literally millions of negative comments about him on the net, i doubt if Bill is that bothered.

These forums are excellent and theres many good people on them. Since you've turned up you've turned the forums into some battleground by insults and petty arguments.

Someone in the 'worst speccy add on' wrote about punching Gordon Ramsey in the face, how about going off on one at him as well ?

I would like to add that spectecjr has some very valid points and under other circumstances would be an asset to this forum.

However, there are ways of talking to people (or typing in this case) that seem to have completely passed him by. It is possible to get a point across without being judgemental, arrogant and insulting.

We all participate in this forum because we hsve something in common, there are going to be disagreements at times, but recently it seems as if no-one can post anything without the risk of starting a war.

    Just my 2p's worth.

I doubt that. I don't see how posting comments in two threads can be considered turning the forums into a battleground.

I've not read that thread, otherwise I might have. It wouldn't make sense to after all that was posted in this thread now though, would it...

While I agree with your sentiment, I'm not sure if that would make any difference at this point.

I think that the moral of this story is: don't post no the 'net thingy when you're under the influence of a really pissy mood.

Yeah, unfortunately, once one gets started on this path, it just escalates... there's not much you can do to stop it, other than just step out of it.

I do wish I'd kept my mouth shut.

    Peace offering spectecjr !

I think many of us at the same time were in a pissy mood so we were very aggitated and snappy.

After that none of us wanted to get off our 'high horse' sort of thing.

Anyway all over now etc etc. So do you ever still run a few classics on any Spectrum emulator ? Also any weird crazy stories from the YS years ?
