My New Toys

Yamaha SY77 - Velicity Sensetive, Afterouch, three assignable modulation wheels, a floppy drive and of course midi connections.
sy77.jpg

A JV2080 sound module, one of the most widely used in the recoding industry in the late 1990's early millenium.
jv2080.jpg

This gear came from a sound engineer responsible for the likes of S-Club 7.

It sounds absolutely fab, especially the hammond B12 with stereo dual flanged Lesleys on the 2080. I bet my neighbours will hate it.

I'm thinking now we should have a WOS Jam. If I create a track, I could then pass it on to the next creative WOSSER to add the next bit. I know there are some WOSSERS into making their own music (no and this is not a euphemism for Mels favourite past time). Whadaya racoon?

nice. looks like it's got 3 wheel things on the left hand side that make notes go "wwweee-oooowww-waaaawwww" , which I believe is the correct technical description for what they do

    Lol, yeah there is three.

One that makes it go wwwwwooooooooiiiiaaaaaarrrrrrr (pitch shift), On that makes it go oooooooowwwwwwwuuuuurrrrrrrrrgggghhghghghghghghghghhwwwwaaaaaaaaaghghgh (modulation/rotate/wah or other assignable) and yes one that goes wwweee-oooowww-waaaawww (Assignable to what I like I chose effect level).

The keyboard is so great it even has its own Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_SY77

Funny enough there is a chance that this might have been used by Brian Eno. The only reason I say this is is both the keyboard and synthesizer module have areas for custom presents that you can program by taking the raw samples and waveforms and applying loads of parameters to them.

Both of them had custom settings in with the letters Eno preceding their name, for example Eno Chimes. Now given that the two devices were made by different manufacturers that's interesting.

Sadly I reset the JV2080 back to its factory settings and lost all the custom settings, because it seemed to be locked into a mono mode that I could not turn off.

What's wrong with Level 42 their first three albums were brill.

Why buy new when you can get second hand thats my way. You can buy crap new stuff, or professional gear that's 10 years old and been looked after for the same price. Ebay is great for that.

Yes its a Commode 64, and early model with orangey function keys.

Yes, you didn't see the ones that didn't get in the shot. One is a still sealed 1980 import brought from a car boot sale for ?1.

Rubicks magic. I have four of these. When ever I see one at a boot sale I buy it. I am assuming as as time goes on these things will get rarer and rarer as it was/is easy for kids to bend them the wrong way and break them.
